To go with our trendy favourite or a more classic choice?

We just can’t decide and this is our final list, we don’t have much time left:

Chloe
Sophie
Rosalind
Phoebe
Emily
Ruby
Everly

Everly or Everlee is our favourite right now. It doesn’t fit my usual style, but I love the sound and Everlee looks more like Ever + Lee than surname to me.

Not sure if we should go with what our heart tells us to or a more classic name.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Justaponder · 12/11/2023 18:18

Go with your heart and choose the name you both love! I have an Everly. We were a little torn when trying to decide, as we were worried what other people would think (with it being a slightly more unusual name), but we went with it and I'm so glad we did! There are lots of options for shortening too, should she later decide. Ultimately, your daughter will give whatever name you choose it's own special identity, and in my opinion the world would be a very boring place if we all had 'timeless, classic' names. Not that there's anything wrong with these - my other child has a very well recognised name! There are no rules, just go with your gut :) xx

IsThePopeCatholic · 12/11/2023 17:26

What sort of name is Everly?

Jewelspun · 12/11/2023 17:11

The Everly brothers were fantastic. As a name for a girl it's awful, just awful.

Depending on your surname it sounds like a name for a Twilight home for OAP's.

ButtonDownBev · 12/11/2023 17:02

You should go with your favourite.

I'm not personally keen on everlee (any spelling) but do like Rosalie, Coralie etc and they are a similar vibe I would say

Baba197 · 12/11/2023 16:40

I like sound of everly but not sure of how it ispelt plus will people always be spelling it wrong? I love Ruby or what about Marlow/ Harlow, Marla, Martha. I have a Jack, he was several different names in the 1st few days but ultimately jack was the name I’ve always loved and that’s important as you say it a lot!!

Donetrying1 · 12/11/2023 14:42

I have spent the last 50 odd years having to explain my name and how to spell it to people. It has given me decades of anxiety and l actually felt really upset that my parents didn’t realise how difficult it would be for me.
For that reason l chose classic simple names for my own 2 children, so please reconsider Everly, Everlee or Everleigh.
The other names on your list are all lovely though.

Hahahahoppy · 12/11/2023 14:36

I love this list - Chloe,Sophie, Pheobe and Emily are all lovely and were on my list for a girl. I was coming on to say have you considered Lucy (my fav and along a similar vein)…but then noticed your username 🙈…

SeethroughDress · 12/11/2023 14:20

It just makes me think of the quiffy US duo the Everly Brothers (‘Wake Up, Little Susie’ and ‘Bye Bye Love’ etc). It would make me wonder if you were fans of corny 50s jukebox hits.

@scrunchie2 , Everly is going to date badly? How would anyone even know that for sure.

Look at the popularity of groups of names. Evie type names like Eve, Eva, Evelyn, Ava and Ivy have been popular for quite some time, so before long the trend will change. It might not be for a few years, but when it does, the names will be closely associated with the period 2005-2025 or whatever.

lljkk · 12/11/2023 13:58

It sounds like a brand of long life margarine to me, sorry.

BoleynMemories13 · 12/11/2023 11:48

SM4713 · 12/11/2023 11:39

How is Maeve pronounced then? I'm not British, and this is exactly how I say it in my head too- Mave, like Dave with an M! 😬

Yes it's exactly that, May-v. It's Irish.

I think Maeve, written down, looks nice. But when compared to boring old blokey sounding Dave it suddenly doesn't sound very pretty to my ears 😂

bobby81 · 12/11/2023 11:47

Chloe is my favourite from your list but I also like Phoebe x

SM4713 · 12/11/2023 11:39

BoleynMemories13 · 12/11/2023 11:19

Reminds me of when someone once described the pronunciation of Maeve on a different site I'm on... "it's like Dave but with an M instead of a D". I cannot unhear this now and often find myself pointing it out to others as it put me off big time!

I loved Everly until someone said “oh so Beverly but without the B” 😩

I appreciate you've asked for opinions here but the names board is always pretty brutal with opinions being stated as facts.. I.E Everly is going to date badly? How would anyone even know that for sure.

Name your baby with a name that you and your partner love, your opinion is all that matters!

greenmarsupial · 11/11/2023 23:34

I'm not a trendy name person but Everly sounds pretty. I would be put off by the meaning though!

Everly Origin and Meaning
The name Everly is both a boy's name and a girl's name of English origin meaning "wild boar in woodland clearing".

NotSoBigCrocodile · 11/11/2023 20:59

I’m not keen on Everly, but I love Pheobe.

ThisIsntThe80sPat · 11/11/2023 20:57

I wouldn't spell it Everlee. Looks dreadful. Like two separate words. Everly is nice though

Sunandsea26 · 11/11/2023 20:49

I wouldn’t ask this question on here. You just get peoples opinions which don’t matter, it’s only what you think that counts when it’s your child.

Twillow · 11/11/2023 20:44

Everly is ok but Everlee is awful sorry. Imagine having to spell it out for people for all time.
Ruby is my favourite classic on your list, the rest are very common or garden and Rosalind sounds rather old fashioned. Rosa I love though.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 11/11/2023 20:43

Sophie, Emily, Chloe in that order.
Can't stand Everlee.

Startrekkeruniverse · 11/11/2023 20:41

I love Everly :)

AlocasiaPolly · 11/11/2023 20:39

I love Everly, but not the other spellings. If you wanted to use it as a middle name Rosalind Everly flows nicely, but it's lovely as a first name.

gemma19846 · 11/11/2023 20:31

Theyre all very bland. Everly sounds like youre mispronouncing Beverly. Rubys probably the nicest but still very common

Star8888 · 11/11/2023 20:20

What about Rosalie... Rosa for short
