Are your DC's names still your favourite?

And how old are your DC? 5 and 2 here and I still haven't come across a name I'd rather have used for them but I expect that will only last so long.

It makes me sad to think that at some point I might find a baby name I prefer to the one I have given them. What's been your experience?

The one name that I felt I compromised on is my favourite. The name I insisted on is actually my least favourite now! It is very popular but I feel has a strong, warrior feel to it and my daughter is the human embodiment of a unicorn or a rainbow. The third child has a name that I was 'meh, ok' about and I love it now. You just give them a name you can live with and hope for the best!

No, my DD's name was my second favourite, it was a compromise as my husband is not British and wanted a name that ties into his heritage a bit. I love her name and it suits her so well, but if it had been my choice alone she'd have had a different one.

That's good to hear there is little regret!

Similarly to @SisterMichaelsHabit and @UsingChangeofName my eldest's name was and is only in the top 100 but somehow there are loads where we live. 3 of them at a hobby, 2 of them at nursery and now 2 in the school year (different class thankfully) but also plenty more in the rest of the school. It does annoy me a bit but I still haven't found a boys name I like more and can't imagine him being called anything else.

Hopefully if it's just regional it won't matter too much as he grows up and moves around!

Yes, preteen and school are letting her use a known as name in school so it's her name shortened to her nickname with my surname. Absent father so she'll change her surname legally when she turns 16. We're counting down Grin

Yes. Absolutely love them. No regrets. It’s one of my (few) decisions I haven’t endlessly double checked myself on.

Scirocco · 10/11/2023 00:15

I love their names, sometimes I come across nice names but nothing that would suit them better or that seem more 'them'.

UsingChangeofName · 10/11/2023 00:07

Mine are in their 20s, and yes, I'm still pretty pleased with my choices.
Eldest has a very popular name - never been in a class / group / hobby where there hasn't been at least one other with the same name, sometimes more. that was before I'd heard of popularity lists, and we didn't spend hours on the internet - just dialled up once every couple of days to get e-mails.
dcs 2 and 3 have far less popular names, which is good.
I still like all their names though.

KohlaParasaurus · 09/11/2023 23:25

My children are aged from 25 upwards and I'm still happy with the names I chose for them. There are lots of other names I like too, but not with any sense of regret.

DramaAlpaca · 09/11/2023 23:22

My eldest (of three) is now 30. I still love all their names, including middle names. Two of the names have since become popular, the other is a well-used classic, but I'd choose them again.

SabrinaThwaite · 09/11/2023 23:22

Yes. They are in their late teens and 20s now.

HaveALaff · 09/11/2023 23:22

They never were my favourite... I was just so unbothered by it and let DH choose.

I love the names now though.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 09/11/2023 23:19

Yes I love their first names still. Wish I hadn't used one of their middle names though as it became "trendy" about three months later. Also one of them had a name that wasn't in the top 10 and somehow we know 5 of them! Age 2 and 4.

Lou670 · 09/11/2023 23:14

My two girls are in their twenties now. The name of the eldest I do still like but probably wouldn't use it now. The name of the youngest I still love and would use it again.
