Hi,

desperetely need help my brain has completed overloaded with names now having gone through the top 1000. Husband has vetoed all of my top 30 😭so left with these back up ones. Possible names that we have not both vetoed are

Maeve
Flora
Cecily
Tessa
Clementine
Faye
Arabella
Anna
Melody
Imogen
Oriana
Meredith
Serena
Allanah
Allegra
Camilla
Alice

I like Maeve Meredith and Tessa

bettynutkins · 09/11/2023 11:30

Maeve, Meredith and Alice are my favourite of your list.

Ottilie
Aurelia
Ophelia
Emma
Cecelia

Some other options for you

CrushingOnRubies · 09/11/2023 11:26

Maeve - nope, too wet
Flora - spread
Cecily - Beatrix potter vibes
Tessa - horsey
Clementine - orange
Faye - wet
Arabella - horsey
Anna - surprised this got past the ‘overused’ filter - your choice Rosanna is nicer and less popular (or Rosalind)
Melody - prefer Elodie
Imogen - like
Oriana - nope
Meredith - like
Serena - like
Allanah - nope
Allegra - nope
Camilla - horsey again
Alice - like (but also popular)

Your DH is being unreasonable - a lot of your favoured names are classic but not overused now because everyone is so desperate to be ‘un-ee-q’ Tell him he gets to veto 50% of your top ten and you get to veto 50% of his top ten and then you’ll have ten names up for discussion. Agree one of yours and one of his as first name- middle name. By the time you’ve given birth bet you get your choice as first name 😉

preggo39 · 09/11/2023 11:19

I LOVE Flora and Tessa. Beautiful but simple names that will grow with your baby.

I really dislike Arabella, Melody, Oriana, Meredith, Allanah, Allegra, Camilla. But that's a preference thing - I really don't like fussy names for girls.

The remaining are all fine!

Frostine · 09/11/2023 11:06

Maeve lovely
Flora lovely
Cecily nope
Tessa nope
Clementine ok
Faye lovely
Arabella nope
Anna lovely
Melody ok
Imogen ok
Oriana nope
Meredith ok ish
Serena nope
Allanah prefer Alana
Allegra nope

Camilla nope
Alice nice but boring

HoHoHoliday · 09/11/2023 11:00

FWIW, it's fine to use the same name for your child as friends have used for theirs. Freya is such a beautiful name. If you used it, there will be no confusion at all with your friend's child.

Love!
Flora
Faye
Serena
Camilla
Alice

Maybe
Cecily
Tessa
Anna
Melody
Imogen
Meredith
Allegra

Bin!
Maeve - hate it, sounds like a lame shortening of Mavis.
Clementine - not a fan of fruit names for people.
Arabella - posh girl who rides horses a lot.
Oriana - it's nice but it's a cruise ship.
Allanah - fine if you are naming after an Alan.

timoteigirl · 09/11/2023 10:45

Maeve - why not?
Flora - if your daughter looks like it
Cecily - no
Tessa - sounds like fresh outdoorsy girl
Clementine - seems to be popular on this website
Faye - I prefer the spelling Fae
Arabella - m-m
Anna - a classic
Melody - dislike
Imogen -dislike
Oriana - sounds great and not too common
Meredith - m-m
Serena - okayish
Allanah - I would struggle with spelling
Allegra - if it goes with your surname
Camilla - I like it, or Camille
Alice - classic like Anna

Its5656 · 09/11/2023 10:40

I'd go with Serena or Alice from that list.
Imogen and Tessa are also nice.

MaloneMeadow · 09/11/2023 10:40

Maeve - gorgeous, love it - a personal favourite of mine!
Flora - the spread! Prefer Florence
Cecily - lovely and quite uncommon
Tessa - nope, boring
Clementine - too frilly
Faye - lovely
Arabella - too frilly
Anna - a bit basic but still nice
Melody - absolutely not, too childish
Imogen - not a fan
Oriana - alright
Meredith - no
Serena - meh
Allanah - Alana spelling isn’t bad but that’s awful
Allegra - nice
Camilla - no
Alice - popular but nice

Ballsbaill · 09/11/2023 10:38

Wait until she is born. You don't need to register the birth for 6 weeks I think.

ChristieEve · 09/11/2023 10:36

Interested to see Tessa getting so much love as it's my favourite too.

I also like Imogen although it's relatively common.

I can't say I have any strong feeling for the others, apart from the following which I really don't like:
Faye
Arabella
Oriana
Serena
Allanah

Not sure about using Camilla now we have a Queen called that.

ru53 · 09/11/2023 10:36

It feels like your husband is not being very kind or open to compromise here. There are some lovely names on your original list and plenty that aren’t common. Can you have an honest conversation with him about how this is making you feel? Ask him to reconsider some of the names you really love? Fwiw I like almost all the names you’ve mentioned and agree about Constance - also you’ll never be able to stop other people shortening it anyway, as soon as she gets to school she would be Connie.

SequinsandStiIettos · 09/11/2023 10:33

Can't believe the love for Tessa when it is quite clearly the name of your mum's nice friend who's a farmer's wife and makes a good scone.

Just to add to the above equally I don’t want the fact that I now feel a bit tired of the name debate with DH to result in me missing out on giving dd a lovely name just because it wasn’t one of my original ideas or end up burdening her with something awful because I am in a rush to just settle on something! This is why I thought feedback from people that are not dh would be helpful. Very grateful for all the ideas and suggestions.

I've seen an app called something like Kinder recommended on here. You both swipe on the names independently and the app shows you which ones (if any!) you've agreed on. I've never used it as I'm way past name choosing now (until I start interfering as a MIL which , from MN, I gather is essential)

Greycottage · 09/11/2023 10:17

Go with Arabella, then when she’s here you can naturally start calling her Bella.

makeminealargeoneagain · 09/11/2023 10:14

From your list my favourites are Anna, Maeve and Alice

RedCoffeeCup · 09/11/2023 10:11

Of your original list I absolutely love Sophie/Sophia and Juliet.

BoohooWoohoo · 09/11/2023 10:07

Maeve - I hear this quite a bit when out and about
Flora - cute. The margarine and jokes about spread wouldn't bother me
Cecily - not keen
Tessa - love it
Clementine- like it
Faye - like it
Arabella - like it
Anna - love it. Think it's your best name
Melody - like it
Imogen - like it
Oriana - think she'll be mistaken for the more popular Ariana
Meredith - like it
Serena - love it
Allanah - not spelled like that Alana looks better to me but that's maybe because I've never seen it with a double L
Allegra - love it
Camilla - like the name but I would be put off it because of the Queen
Alice - love it

Prettypaisleyslippers · 09/11/2023 10:07

Anna or maybe Anna Maria?

Riverlee · 09/11/2023 10:05

I’d wait until the baby arrives and then see what suits her. The chances are you’ll hear a singer on the radio on the way to the hospital. and suddenly that will become the name!

StopRainingOrElse · 09/11/2023 10:05

Shame your DH doesn't like Eva as I think that's lovely.
