Thoughts on Meredith?

I also quite like Michaela and Merryn?

Please feel free to suggest any other M names?

Veto’d names already include: Melrose, Mackenzie, Margery.

Names we’re a bit ambivalent about: Marietta, Margot, Maeve.

Please help!

Love Meredith.
We have a family saying of " I'm in Meredith,I'm in"
I believe it was an old musical hall joke originally.

Love Meredith. My favourite M name is Martha.

Vexxa · 08/11/2023 07:33

I adore Meredith but sadly my DH wasn't keen on it. I also like Marianne.

Firstnamesurname31 · 08/11/2023 07:32

Meredith is lovely!
I love Margot too.
Also - Martha, Maggie, Miriam

Meredith is lovely.
Maeve and Margot much harder and seem to be the names of the moment. I vaccinate babies and every other girl is Maeve or Margot.
Mara?

I've always liked Meredith and don't think it sounds harsh in the slightest.

Martha, Marta, Martine, Martina, Mariella, Marina, Melanie, Melody, Marion, Marian, Marianne, Marianna, Mariana, Meriel, Muriel, May, Mabel, Mae, Maureen, Morwenna.

I love Meredith and Merryn from your list. Congratulations.

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/11/2023 07:26

Meredith - surname, harsh sounding
Michaela - ok but not keen on Miki or Kayla
Merryn - male saint

Melrose, Mackenzie - No to both
Margery has a granny-name appeal, Margery Allingham - Wikipedia

Marietta - a bit too fussy
Margot - Maggot, likely to be overused
Maeve - just don't like it

Margaret (Greta), Margarita (Rita), Meriel, Melissa, Molly, Millicent, Maria, Miranda, Martina, Marcia, Marcella, Morgana, Morwenna, Morven, Maarit, Melisande, Maryam, Myrtle, Maud

@NannyR , I think the welsh version is spelled differently and is used for boys, and they say the 'th' like in 'there' not 'thing'.

NannyR · 08/11/2023 07:19

I really like Meredith, but from what I've heard, the correct way to pronounce it in Welsh sounds quite different to how most people think it's pronounced, and that would put me off using it.
I'm not Welsh so I may have got this wrong, but I think in Welsh it's more like mehREDith, whereas it's commonly pronounced MERRAdith.

Kiwiburgh · 08/11/2023 07:15

Meredith and Maeve are both lovely

Haroldandhilda · 08/11/2023 07:13
