Vida name pronunciation

Vye-da or Vee-da?

Every old lady I know with the name Vida pronounces it vye-da but there is a little Vida in school where her parents pronounce it vee-da.

I also know a Veeda so to me they are 2 different names.

I used to work with a Vida pronounced vee da. Though often people who didn’t know her would ask for vie da

I've never heard of it, so I instinctively think "Vee-da".

I’d assume this and think most people would

muddyford · 11/11/2023 12:47

Veeda.

Hibernatalie · 11/11/2023 12:37

Vee-da

Viva la Vida!

Great name

FacingTheWall · 11/11/2023 12:29

My grandmother pronounced it V-eye-da, but she used to get called Vee-da too if people hadn’t met her before.

Soozikinzii · 11/11/2023 12:23

Did you use the name Vida ? As in V- eye- da ? and Violet ? Like my gma ? I know the word Vida is pronounced differently. But Vi is nice and people get used to how you choose to say it ! I think it's a lovely name anyway, but I'm biased !

miniaturepixieonacid · 09/11/2023 23:55

I've never heard the name but I would probably say Vee-da. Unless it's the same name as Veda in My Girl in which case I'd say Vay-da.

Somewhatchallenging · 09/11/2023 19:15

Veeda, as in the Spanish.

PickledScrump · 09/11/2023 18:22

Veeda as in livin la Vida loca

Azandme · 09/11/2023 16:51

The one I know is Vee-da.

MaloneMeadow · 09/11/2023 16:50

The only one I know is pronounced vee-da, and she’s a horse! Seconding @PopcornAndGummyBears it’s an amazing bread to me, not a name for child

toastofthetown · 09/11/2023 15:34

I’d say Veeda. I wonder if it’s the same effect where Sophia was often said as So-fye-a in Britain, whereas the name is now almost exclusively So-fee-a. Maybe because of more globalisation and familiarity with European languages.

SkaneTos · 08/11/2023 23:42

I have never heard that name!

My instinct would be to pronounce it Vee-da.

DaftyInTheMiddle · 07/11/2023 07:27

Vee-da only heard the name once in an ex colleague, she must be a little only lady now. Vyda sounds off

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 07/11/2023 07:22

Never heard of it; but I would instinctively say "veeda". I would find it quite odd if I heard someone say "vyeda"

LiCenDon · 07/11/2023 07:22

Vee da

TheBirdintheCave · 07/11/2023 07:21

logicisall · 07/11/2023 07:02

To me it's vee -da. The Spanish for "life".

Samesies.

My grandma's name was Vida ! We pronounced item VIda the I as in eye . Its a lovely unusual name . I noticed Michael Bible's daughter has it ! - obviously because of My gma .

His wife is from Argentina.

Yes @Soozikinzii every older lady with this name is VI-da to me, so I actually find the Vee pronunciation strange. I think Vi as the same as Violet.

It interesting to the meaning of Vida and hear that others would pronounce it Veeda. Thank you everyone

Edited

For me it's because of the Spanish. La vida loca!

It would be vee-da to me. (And I could never use it because Veda is a type of bread - bread of the Gods actually - and it would be weird to call a child that)

DappledThings · 07/11/2023 06:54

The only one I know is Vee-da.
