Family don't like baby's name

Expecting baby boy in 3 weeks and we can't get a name, the only name me and hubby have agreed on is Casey, but every single person I tell screws up there face and say naw I don't like that it's a girl's name,
My other kids are Jake, Annabelle and Jamie.
I don't want to call him it if people are going to make fun of the name.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Casey Jones...as soon as I heard that I was transported back in time and the song "Casey Jones….he was steamin’ and a rollin’ on the Canonball Express! " 😂Definitely a boy/man's name.

Me too 😂I used to watch that show.
Definitely a boy name for me. I like it.
Another one I like is Jesse. As in Jesse James.

DevonMum123 · 06/11/2023 13:06

Casey is a girl in our school..

kurotora · 06/11/2023 13:01

I wouldn’t because of Casey Anthony - the famous very likely child murderess - indeed if you Google “Casey” it’s the first suggestion. But I must be in the minority because it’s not been brought up by anyone else here. It’s a US case but still a HUGE and horrible one.

goingtotown · 06/11/2023 12:47

A girls name like Tracey, Stacey, Macy Lacey.

Whereland · 06/11/2023 12:44

It's a lovely boys name. Don't tell anyone else the name until baby is born!

Kattiekat · 06/11/2023 12:41

Can’t imagine a grown man called Casey.
ok for a child. Not keen on it for a male or female tbh.

but then you shouldn’t really care what people think I suppose.

your other kids names seem different. What changed for this one?

update: just remembered my nephews middle name is Casey haha

UrsulaBelle · 06/11/2023 12:33

Boy's name to me. Casey Jones (also a sixties child) and Casey Kasem (Shaggy from Scooby Doo) so I do feel it's an American name. Not my taste, prefer your other DC's names but not a bad name.

Ahem Casey Affleck - it's definitely not just a girls name.

If you and DH like it OP then use it. It is nobody else's business.

I also think it's really nice and not over used :)

Tabitha2721 · 06/11/2023 12:13

Really common boys name, here and America. One of the great Moro Gp riders names - Casey stoner. Can’t go wrong!

WaltzingWaters · 06/11/2023 12:11

definitely a unisex name. I quite like it for a boy.
don’t tell anyone intended baby names until baby is born.

winrol · 06/11/2023 12:11

I love the name Casey for a boy!

amyds2104 · 06/11/2023 12:10

Why did the pp suggest Joshua lol. It’s nothing like Casey.
my female girl cousin was called Casey but my first thought was Casey affleck. I think it’s a lovely name and no one would bat an eyelid at it in other countries around the world. Congratulations on your 4th 😊

user1488042156 · 06/11/2023 12:09

My 6 year old boy is called Casey and everyone who's heard it has loved it. Never been called a girl for it.

I didn't tell anyone his name until he was born as you get people putting their opinions in. If you and your husband love it, that's all that matters.

Lifeinlists · 06/11/2023 12:08

I don't think it goes with your other names - maybe that's what your family are thinking? Obviously your choice, though I did think of the Casey Jones song too.

Pinkdelight3 · 06/11/2023 12:08

Makes me think of Casey Kasem - now that's a daft name! But okay for showbiz.

I don't love the name but it's definitely unisex.

Acornsoup · 06/11/2023 12:07

Ahem Casey Affleck - it's definitely not just a girls name.

If you and DH like it OP then use it. It is nobody else's business.

EmpressSisi · 06/11/2023 12:04

It’s unisex to me. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that it reminds me of that sleaze Casey Affleck but other than that it’s an okay name.

that's why you don't tell name of the baby before baby is born

I think you should not worry about bullying because kids bully because of their insecurities not because of victim of bullying or their traits. You can't really bully proof kids.
That said, people don't usually laugh at baby name if baby is already named and you really shouldn't worry that much about people's opinions anyway.

Agree with this fully.

We have two DC, we are a mixed cultural/ethnicity/religious family, we knew our name choices would receive criticism from both sides of the family (although much more from one particular side) with efforts to persuade us to choose other things. We didn't therefore tell our name choices to anyone before the baby was born.

We had one comment from one relative with our first born where they literally paused when we told them the name and then suggested a completely different name in response that began with the same letter. To which we both burst out laughing at the cheek and that was the end of that.

Ignore them, pick the name you like, they won't go on about it once it's baby's actual name.

Lindy2 · 06/11/2023 11:55

I actually think Casey is quite a cool name. Not used very much but not too way out there.

I know one other Casey and he is a young man.

It's not your family's choice to make. You get to name your own baby.

It's best not to reveal the name until baby has arrived. At that point any response other than "that's lovely" to the new parents is extremely rude.

almondseagull · 06/11/2023 11:48

I know a young man called Kacie

TequilaNights · 06/11/2023 11:46

I know a Casey both male and female, call your baby what you like

TreesandRug · 06/11/2023 11:43

Unisex. Not a name I'd choose, but not one I'd bat an eyelid at on the playground.

I knew a Casey whose name came from their initials, e.g. Kevin Craig =KC

Smugandproud · 06/11/2023 11:25

Casey is a good name imo.
If people make fun tell them not to be rude.
When my df made a rude comment about DD’s name and threatened to use her middle name instead I told him not to bother visiting.

dutysuite · 06/11/2023 11:23

They don't need to like it! I didn't tell anyone the name we'd chosen as I/we didn't want anyone else's input or opinions.

SE13Mummy · 06/11/2023 11:22

Call your baby what you want to and if family choose to make fun of the name you choose, steer clear of them. I wonder if they thought you were asking for opinions rather than sharing the name you plan to use? Perhaps they would have been less outspoken if they'd realised Casey is your chosen name.

I think of Casey as a unisex name but it is quite different from the names of your other boys. Both Jake and Jamie are names within their own rights but also nicknames for the more traditional Jacob and James. Casey doesn't have a more traditional version so it stands out as different. Names such as Sam, Ben, Tom, Alfie, Fred, Max and maybe Harry are the sort of names I'd imagine as brothers of Jake and Jamie.
