Ella, Ivy or Sienna

We have just had our 4th baby girl. All under the age of 5…sibling names are Zara(eldest), the Olivia & Rosie.
We are between Ella, Ivy or Sienna.
Which sounds better with these names? We have a longish traditional second name.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ella Victoria

Ivy was top 5 in 2021, whereas Ella is on a downward trend. I agree that there are lots of similar El names but there are plenty of names similar sounding to Ivy too (Isla, Iris, Ida etc).

Both could equally be duplicated so I really wouldn't let that factor in to your decision as there's nothing between them in that sense and you can never predict these things.

Your other children have fairly popular names too, so does popularity really matter this time?

Clare2023 · 09/11/2023 22:12

Thanks for all the comments, great to get feedback/opinions from people.
We have decided not to go with Sienna so it’s 50/50 between Ella & Ivy now!!
Feel like Ella is def more generally liked but our worry is that she’ll be one of many in her class with lots of El variations such as Elle,Ellie etc.
Feel like Ivy might not be as warm & pretty but it might be edgier/less likely to be forgotton/confused with other names.
Its so hard to decide-aaaghhh!!!

Middle name options were
Ella Victoria or Ivy Grace.
As a full name-which sounds better?!

My husband mentioned Zoe but I’m worried as have a Zara, are they too similar?

Too similar for me.

I love flower names…..Poppy, Violet or Daisy?

StrawberrySkies · 06/11/2023 11:41

Ella - a bit overused but classic.
Ivy - personal favourite, it goes with your girls names the best.
Sienna - Not a fan

Itsbecauseiamamumandlovethem · 05/11/2023 22:01

Congratulations OP .I would choose Sienna .Xx

Theoldwoman · 05/11/2023 21:58

Ella one hundred percent.

Not keen on the others at all.

OopsieeDaisy · 05/11/2023 21:53

Love Ella. Not a fan of Ivy or Sienna personally. I like Lily which you’ve mentioned above and adore Daisy if that could be an option since you like the other flower names.

Joolsin · 05/11/2023 21:00

Ivy, by miles and miles. Ella is too boring and Sienna doesn't sound nice with your other names.

Mystro202 · 05/11/2023 20:31

Our newest is Sienna, I love it. Tbh it's a bit of a marmite name and I find older people have to ask twice as they don't seem to be familiar with it. When they repeat it after me they don't seem too impressed with it. I don't care though as it suits our girl and we both like it. Ella was actually one of our runner up names!

Clare2023 · 05/11/2023 20:19

Thanks so much for all the feedback. We are running out of time as need her name registered this week!
Other names in the mix are Victoria & Lily. I also like Poppy but not sure about putting other flower names with Rosie as Rosie is just 16months. People might think they are twins!

Thanks for all the feedback. Other names in the mix are Victoria & Lily. I’m out of Victoria as not a fan of Vicky though abd wasn’t sure about Lily as Rosie is only 16months old so people might think they are twins with 2 flower names!
We also love Poppy but other family members have put us off using this!

I love Ella and like Sienna.

DisappearingGirl · 05/11/2023 19:02

I like all three!

HaplessRhombus · 05/11/2023 19:01

Of the 3, I'd pick Sienna. I don't think I'd use it myself, but it's not overly popular and I like the sound of it the most.

Ivy is so popular at the moment that there are three in my son's 2-3 class at nursery (middle class area where older names are popular). And Ella is less common round here now but was super popular 5-8 years ago.

TheIsleOfTheLost · 05/11/2023 18:29

Love Ivy. Would have used it if my ds's had been girls. Nick names wouldn't put me off, Poison Ivy is a kick arse environmentalist feminist. Ivy also feeds the birds when very little else is ripe and provides a home for lots of critters.

daisypond · 05/11/2023 18:21

Not Ivy. It’s not at all timeless or beautiful, and it’s a rather unpleasant plant.

Ella is a bit dull but fine. I like Sienna.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 05/11/2023 17:50

All are pretty popular at the moment round my way.

Ella is my favourite, then Sienna and Ivy last. Don’t love Ivy to be honest and I was put off using Ella by how popular it is.

Spidey66 · 05/11/2023 17:49

I love Ivy.

I like Ella but maybe a bit too popular?

Sienna reminds me too much of Senna, sorry.

shakeitoffsis · 05/11/2023 17:47

Ivy. Ella and sienna are done to death

mmgirish · 05/11/2023 17:47

I'm a teacher. I've heard kids call a child poison Ivy before so I would avoid that personally.

hcarter8 · 05/11/2023 17:46

Ella is very classic and timeless.
Ivy reminds me of an old lady sorry.
Sienna is nice but much more trendy than ella and ivy

Sandysandwich · 05/11/2023 17:46

Not helpful but I think they are all lovely and go well with your other names
