Alvin Stardust real name is Shane Fenton .

YRGAM · 06/11/2023 15:03

I think it's nice. It will at least differentiate him in his future class of 10 Alfies, 10 Theos and 9 Olivers

MooseBreath · 05/11/2023 14:59

I like it! It's a well-known name that is easy to spell, but the child is not likely to have multiples with the name in school or work. It also sounds nice and soft without being "wet".

BoleynMemories13 · 05/11/2023 13:35

Interesting that most people think Australian. I think Irish.

It's not to my taste, but I do actually know of two who are both primary age. I prefer Shay, personally. Shane feels a bit dated.

GettingSickOfYourNonsense · 05/11/2023 08:37

Shane Richie - Eastenders
Shane Warne - cricketer

NO.

Justleaveitblankthen · 05/11/2023 08:33

Prefer Shaun.. But it has to be spelt the proper way - Sean.

Holidayhell22 · 05/11/2023 06:16

No it was the school bully’s name.

Proudmummy67 · 04/11/2023 14:22

I associate it more as an Irish name and think Shane from Westlife!

TheSandgroper · 04/11/2023 14:10

Australian here. I was at school with a Shane. ExDP had Shane as a middle name. I said “did your mum pick that out of a magazine while she was in labour?” You know, just throwing it out there. He said “yes, she did”.

I still remember coming home after my first day at swimming lessons that year. “Mum, she’s gold all over, she’s got long hair all striped with gold and her name’s Shane!” I think I was 8.

theduchessofspork · 04/11/2023 10:48

No. Naughty boy vibe for sure..

Seamus is nice though.

LadyEloise1 · 04/11/2023 10:31

I really like it.
Different connotations depending on where you live in the world.
I'm in Ireland so it's s perfectly nice normal name.

peaceinourtime · 04/11/2023 09:54

I used to think Shane was the coolest name when I was younger. It’s a nice name.

sawnotseen · 04/11/2023 03:53

What nationality are you and the baby's dad?
I only know two Australian Shanes who are both 40s/50s.
I also know a couple of Shays who are late teens and of Irish decent. I like it.
Plus a Seamus (50s) who is Irish and it's shortened to Shay.
I prefer Shay to Shane.

Lizzieregina · 04/11/2023 03:51

LOl, my BIL wanted to name his son Shane, and I browbeat my sister into picking something else.

Still NO 40 years on!

user1492757084 · 04/11/2023 03:30

I think of Shane Warne and Shane Gould.
Shane is a sporty name for a champion.
For a girl Shane reminds me of the names Terry, Dale, Viv and Maxi.
Shane for a boy reminds me of cricketers and footballers.

SheenaShone · 04/11/2023 03:02

I like Shane....and I also love Sasha...for boy or girl.

Hotchocolatemousse · 04/11/2023 02:49

Eeewwww

Proudmummy67 · 04/11/2023 02:46

Aw I like it! I'm a teacher and teach a Shane at school.

blackoverbillsmothers · 04/11/2023 02:08

No.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/11/2023 02:06

Seriously. Australian kept into my brain.

TheGoddessFreyja · 04/11/2023 02:06

Dotcheck · 04/11/2023 01:56

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 04/11/2023 01:55

I thought of Australians too. Specifically be-mulletted 1980s ones.

My mate's Aussie husband is called Shane, and he did indeed have a mullet back in the day.😁
