Honest opinions on these four baby girl names

Hi,

I've made a couple of posts in the past to help us find a name for our baby girl, they've really helped to narrow down our options and we think we may be ready to settle on a name.

Just to be sure, I'd we'd rather hear honest opinions now just based solely on our shortlist, as we're not sharing the names with anyone until she is born so reactions are difficult to gauge.

Any opinions good and bad are welcome 🙂 we want to make sure there's nothing negative as well that we haven't already thought of.

Shortlist : Callie, Erin, Raine, Nova.

Thank you 😊

Callie isn't really a name, it's a nickname for a name.
Loathe the name Erin - hard and brittle-sounding.
The only Raine I've heard of is Raine Spencer, not a very pleasant association. Rain without an 'e' would be better.
Nova is Trying Too Hard.

LittleGreenDuck · 31/10/2023 22:05

I went to school with a Nova, she'll be in her 40s now. It was an odd name then, though I think she was probably named just prior to the influx of Vauxhall Novas. I bet her parents were thrilled! My first car was a Nova too.

I like Erin, definitely the best of your choices. I agree with others that Callie should be short for something, I particularly like Calista. That said, I do know a Callie who is "just" Callie. She's late teens and loves her name.

Don't like Raine.

Viviennemary · 31/10/2023 22:03

Not overseen on any of them. But Erin is the best. Raine and Nova are pretty dire.

Mumofgirls2017 · 31/10/2023 22:02

Callie is my favourite. Also like Erin and Nova .

Dillane · 31/10/2023 22:01

Like Callie, but the rest are awful.

theduchessofspork · 31/10/2023 22:00

Callie is my favourite but better as shortform of Caroline or Calista

Erin is OK.

Nova and Raine I don’t like - Nova sounds like a science brand, and Raine makes me think rain or rein or reign, all of which are quite weird as a name.

2chocolateoranges · 31/10/2023 21:59

Erin - love , was on our list.
Nova- sounds lovely
Callie- not a fan
Raine- just NO!

tortoiseshellcats · 31/10/2023 21:58

I like Erin and Callie the best

BasiliskStare · 31/10/2023 21:56

Erin - not at all trashy.

supernoodletrain · 31/10/2023 21:36

Callie - love
Erin - don't like but only knew Erin's I didn't like so it's possibly not the name
Raine - not keen but know of a Rania - (Ran EE ahh) which I love. Also like Raina - Rain- ah)
Nova - husky name. Not sure why

Theoldwoman · 31/10/2023 21:35

Erin is the only one I would name a daughter.

TheHappiestChristmasTree · 31/10/2023 21:33

All nice in their own way but this is my order:

Erin
Callie
Raine
Nova

Raine reminds me of the kardashian kid, though I don't think it's spelled the same. Nova is a car.

WinniePig · 31/10/2023 21:29

I like traditional names so don’t like any of yours except Erin (which is okay). But so what…we have different tastes.

GHSP · 31/10/2023 21:19

Erin is a beautiful name. And Callie is even better but I would want it to be short for something - Calliope is a fantastic name, with a lovely meaning, as is Callista - very classic. The others aren’t to my taste.

muddyford · 31/10/2023 21:17

Not keen on any of them.

Stokey · 31/10/2023 21:03

I associate Nova with the car too.

"Nova, Nova, do it over" as apparently they were very easy to steal....

I was tempted by Calypso for DD2 but wasn't sure about the Callie NN, but I think it reminded me of an old teacher.

Flyhigher · 31/10/2023 21:02

Erin

Dacadactyl · 31/10/2023 21:00

Erin and Callie, in that order.

The other 2 are absolutely dreadful.

LizHoney · 31/10/2023 20:57

I'm sorry I don't like any of them.

AdaColeman · 31/10/2023 20:47

Raine is the only one I like.

chattyness · 31/10/2023 20:45

I love Erin, I can't stand Raine or Nova they sound attention seeky and pretentious, Callie would constantly be asked what her name is short for which would be ruddy annoying after the first few hundred enquiries I should imagine

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 31/10/2023 20:42

I only like nova

LambMomo · 31/10/2023 20:41

Callie.

Really dislike Nova.

Brexile · 31/10/2023 20:39

I think you should use the long form of whatever Callie is short for. The others aren't proper names and sound trashy (sorry).

SorrowsPrayers · 31/10/2023 20:36

Callie...as long as it's short for Calliope!
