For a baby boy born today!
It’s the name the Met Office have given this storm. So what do you think?

Unless you’re in Ireland it will never be pronounced correctly.

@Berlinlover So you meet someone new... They say "nice to meet you, my name is keer-awn".... How would you pronounce it going forward? Most of the time we meet someone new we hear and say their name before reading / writing it!

Beautiful name OP! Use it. Regardless of the storm, it's a common enough name to stand it's own test of time!

EasterMummie · 01/11/2023 20:38

I don't think it will be mispronounced anymore than people called Sarah occassionaly get called Sara, or people called Karen get called Keren. Some people will always mispronounce a name!

Lovely name, and good connection to the storm too.

Fadas are over rated.

Em no they're not if you speak Irish.

It's a really lovely name but I much prefer Kieran (and I'm Irish in Ireland) but I think that's because I know lots of lovely Kierans.

JustAMinutePleass · 01/11/2023 18:25

Kieran / Kieron is the English spelling and I think I prefer that if you’re not in Ireland.

Meanwhile Kiran literally means ray of sunshine in Sanskrit.

But p is great! Come to think of it Piran is a great name, and Perranzabuloe is fab. Went surfing there one summer.

If you don't like fadas then toddle off and find a new name that doesn't have any.

Love the name.

KayEmAy · 01/11/2023 18:00

I adore it:)

ColleenDonaghy · 01/11/2023 17:51

It's a grand name, don't love it, don't hate it. But make sure your pronunciation and the fada inclusion/exclusion match.

Ciaran = kieran
Ciarán = keer-awn

such a stupid thing to say.

like saying the letter P is overrated.

determinedtomakethiswork · 31/10/2023 23:38

Congratulations on your new baby. I hope the birth went well. Ciaran is a beautiful name. Sorry, can't do the accent on here.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/10/2023 23:34

I love it

UsingChangeofName · 31/10/2023 23:34

Are you living in Ireland ?

If not, I'd think on, as it will be be mispronounced continually, which, presuming you've chosen it this way rather than the other, similar and yet so very different name, I'm presuming you wouldn't want?

LulooLemon · 31/10/2023 23:11

Lovely name

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 31/10/2023 23:01

We have a young Ciarán in our family and he's gorgeous. He's also very excited a storm has been named after him

Fadas are over rated.

Fadas are vital to pronunciation.

Do you want a Ciarán or a Kieran in your clann?

andyourpointiswhat · 31/10/2023 22:14

Gorgeous name but expect people to regularly omit the fada.

Biasquia · 31/10/2023 22:11

I haven’t heard it pronounced correctly yet on the BBC so maybe consider that.

The name is keer awn not Kieran which is the anglicised version.

icewoman · 31/10/2023 22:10

I'd wait and see how the storm pans out first. Remember baby Katrina? I wonder how she feels about her name now. She must be an adult

theduchessofspork · 31/10/2023 22:08

windypumpkin · 31/10/2023 21:29

It will if he asks why you chose that name. Then tells people.

Well the OP will obviously just say she liked it. By the time he is old enough to ask, it will be long forgotten,
