Me and my partner just can’t agree on which spelling of this name!

Either is fine but I'd go with whichever is the most popular otherwise she will spend her life getting it spelled incorrectly

Madison, like the avenue, ie like the president.

It's a surname though and I'm not sure why you'd choose it for a girl. It's a bit trailer trash sounding

No, the spelling doesn't make it a girl's name. Giving the name to a girl makes it a girl's name. It having originally been a boy's name, or you not liking it as a girl's name, does not mean it is not a girl's name now.

To confuse matters there is also a footballer called James Maddison with two D's.

Madison I think is the more usual spelling in England

I have to say I do know more people with Madison as the first name though, than the surname! I know 3 girls/women called Madison. I don't know anyone with it as their surname. I am sure it is used as a surname, and I'm not doubting you. I have just never come across it myself. Smile

Karren Brady spells her name with 2 'R's and it makes me itch every time I see it. I'm like 'nooooo, it's ONE 'R!' Grin

Each to their own, but some names should only be spelt (spelled?) a certain way, and Madison is one of them. Just one D. Madison! Smile

Maddison Brown is an Australian actress so maybe go with the two DD's?
