Following on from another thread of popular baby names in classes..
As it's taking ages for the 2022 data of baby names to be released I am curious what is most common name in nursery's at the moment?

Mabel and Martha are very popular around here right now

I have a just turned 4 year old in school & private nursery. Her age - Arthur/Archie/Leo/Theo for boys, Elsie/Evie/Isla for girls. Younger babies born this year - seeing lots of Jude/Reggie/Theo and Etta/Millie for girls.

peaceinourtime · 22/11/2023 13:07

Isla, I know it’s an old name but there are stacks of them around at the moment which makes it sound dreary

Firebird83 · 21/11/2023 22:09

Lots of boys called Theo, Arlo and Arthur

Anything that ends in "ie" (the eee sound) in my setting.

My daughter just turned one last week, and isn't in nursery yet, but we do go to some baby groups. They have loads of the standard names already mentioned, but a couple surprised me.
3 Una all under 18 months. Definitely all Una and nit Luna as I misheard them as Luna and was corrected 😁
Loads of Gus's for boys. I feel like I hear Gus, Felix, Bertie and Luca a lot!!!!
The girls seem to be way more varied but the Unas really struck me as an unusual little micro trend in my town.

@BoleynMemories13 has anyone tried emailing ONS team to find out a potential release date? There's contact details on the previous release so I was wondering if to just ask for an update? It's never been this late for years so something must be going on I'd have thought @mum1345

I wonder why it is so late?

Elspethelf · 27/10/2023 05:01

Mia, Luke/Luca, Willow and Olivia are common

unvillage · 26/10/2023 18:12

Three Mabels in my setting.

oldnorsesaga · 25/10/2023 12:28

I think 2021 data was released in 2022, so I think stats for 2022 will be released next year. I agree... it's too outdated even when it used to release at August next year.

I agree we don't need to know popular names based on mothers age. I also found table too irrelevant, since I never seen number how many mothers under 25 years there is - sure in this day and age that number is smaller and smaller? Do we really need to know younger mothers prefer nicknames over full names?

There seems to be a few Aria’s and other short names ending in ‘a’ for girls. Names like Ottilie, Ophelia & Wilfred seem to be on the up.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 23/10/2023 07:45

Lovely to hear of all the little Arthurs. It was my DF's name Wink

HaplessRhombus · 23/10/2023 07:39

My son's nursery group have several of the following in the 1-3 age range: Luca, Leo, Ivy, Isaac, Eve/Evelyn/Evie, Freddie, Jackson, Otis and Frankie (Francesca).

Outside of nursery, I know four Arthurs and three Albies. And quite a few Olivers and Olivias.

Do you know when the 2022 data is due out? It’s normally September/October isn’t it? I can’t even see a release date

No, they're ridiculously overdue as the 2021 list still says next data due August/September (provisional) and a confirmed date is still not appearing on the release calendar. This usually happens at least a few weeks before release, so I'm guessing end of November at the earliest now.

So frustrating. They use to release it at the end of the year (including babies born and registered up to mid-December, with the rest rolling into the next year's data). I do think it's better to include all babies born that calendar year, for accuracy, but why does it take so long now? Surely it could be ready by late Feb-March at the latest? It was bad enough when we had to wait until August (since about 2008ish), then it was September, then October).

The data is already quite out of date now by the time it's released! I think it's because they try to analyse so much now. Whilst the extra tables with breakdowns of regions, months born, age of mother etc are interesting, all people initially want is the actual positions of each name. The extra analysis could be released later in the year. I don't understand why they hold the whole thing back until everything has been analysed to death.
