A bit stuck on names… we have agreed so far that we like these three, but I’m not sure we love any of them.
What do you think?

I love Alice from your list. Classic and pretty and I don’t hear it very often 💕

Ifyoulikealotofchocolateonyourbiscuit · 22/10/2023 09:03

They’re nice but all 3 are very popular in my dds school. She’s 8 and has 2 Alice’s, a matilda and an ivy in her class.

do you like Iris?

Alice hardly needs shortening!!! I know an Alison shortened to Ali.

orchardsquare · 22/10/2023 00:34

I like all those names. Alice is the safe option, Ivy is a bit niche but could work well in certain areas.

ItJustFellOutLikeWordVomit · 22/10/2023 00:22

Alice or Ivy, please don’t do Matilda, it puts me too much in mind of the most smug with not a cute bone looking role ever to be played 😂

Alice is pretty, not too keen on Ivy or Matilda.

Pallisers · 22/10/2023 00:08

Alice is my favourite.

In that line I also love Juliet and Sylvia.

caringcarer · 21/10/2023 23:58

I love Alice. It was my Mum's name.

Scutterbug · 21/10/2023 23:14

I have a Matilda Alice, shortened to Tillie x

Theoldwoman · 21/10/2023 23:13

Alice is top of my list currently.

tiggergoesbounce · 21/10/2023 23:11

Love Matilda

Ecnerual · 21/10/2023 23:08

Alice is my favourite of the three.
I also know one who's nickname is Ali.

Marmite27 · 21/10/2023 23:00

I know an Alice, known as Ally.

MaloneMeadow · 21/10/2023 18:52

Not a fan of Ivy whatsoever. Somehow chavvy and granny at the same time!

Matilda is nice but I prefer the French version (Mathilde). Tilly is a lovely nickname

Alice is gorgeous, classic and elegant

VeryQuaintIrene · 21/10/2023 17:53

Love Matilda, and want to name my next girl cat that, though it does make me think of the cautionary tale about Matilda who told such dreadful lies...

daisypond · 21/10/2023 17:45

Dislike Ivy.
Alice is ok.
Matilda is favourite.

My dd is Alice.

It has the advantage of being un-nicknameable.

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 16:56

Please not Maude!! 😂

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 16:56

@theduchessofspork 3 Matildas at my primary. All are called Tilly and Matilda interchangeably.

timoteigirl · 21/10/2023 11:40

I like all of them although always expect Ivy to be a goth hanging around old cemeteries lols.

theduchessofspork · 21/10/2023 11:26

They are all quite nice

I think Matilda is the least used right now, so I’d go for that.

Otherwise maybe..

I love Alice and Ivy, really dislike Matilda

BoleynMemories13 · 21/10/2023 11:09

I prefer Alice out of those 3. It's timeless and suits all age groups.

Pipperleen · 21/10/2023 10:57

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions and opinions! Some really lovely ones here that I hadn’t even thought of.

Ivy is not a plant I’d want to be named after. Matilda will be Tilly so bear than in mind.
Betsy?
Honor?
Clara?
Lana?
Odette?
Orla?

There's absolutely no reason a Matilda has to be a Tilly! Only if the OP chooses Tilly.
