Thoughts on Christina?

Obvious nicknames could be Chris, Chrissy, Christi, Tine (pronounced 'Teen') or Tina.

I like it. However I may be biased as a Christian and Christina meaning follower of Christ!

I like it, and it's a proper grown-up name.

UsefulSmartPrettyHappy · 25/10/2023 13:51

I always wanted this as a middle name when I was younger. It wouldn't work well with my married name though. My name would become a sentence. - Think "Christ in a Hall" for example.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 22/10/2023 21:52

Very pretty name .

Pemba · 22/10/2023 21:50

A pretty, classic name, and a bit more unusual these days. I prefer Chrissie to Tina as a short form.
Did you know that Kirsty was traditionally short for Christina in Scotland, apparently? I like Kirsty too.

89redballoons · 22/10/2023 21:25

I have an Auntie Tina, in her 60s now and I know a few other Christinas and Christines of that age. My auntie is only Tina to her family, though, and everyone else calls her Christina.

I think it's a beautiful name, and it's one of those ones that's known without being super popular. It doesn't feel dated to me like Susan or Angela or Lorraine do, maybe that's just me though.

Sealover123 · 21/10/2023 21:33

Pretty name, my friend is Cristina and she's gorgeous and classy!

LadyLapsang · 21/10/2023 17:34

I think it’s a pretty name, reminds me of Christina Onassis. I don’t like Tina.

ChristinaNotChristine · 21/10/2023 17:15

And I'm not religious so the Christian link to my name is neither here nor there. I also don't get called nicknames. It's just Christina.

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 17:14

My DM was Christine and hated being called Chris. I’d never shorten someone’s name without asking or being told to.

ChristinaNotChristine · 21/10/2023 17:12

I'm a Christina and I love my name. I do hate when people call me Christine though and these are people who know me well. It's just bloody rude because it's not my name. Other than rude people, I like my own name very much.

HoHoHoliday · 21/10/2023 17:06

I really like it, I think it sounds pretty and refreshing! I like Chrissy or Christy as nicknames. Also love Christiana as someone else suggested above.

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 17:00

Nora is another! Nitty Nora!

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 17:00

@MaloneMeadow I agree. There are some lovely old names - Maeve being one. Ada, Ivy and Maude sound horrible and just conjure up rollers and hair nets!

PerspiringElizabeth · 21/10/2023 14:33

Stina and Christa feel like fresher shortenings to me. I know Stina is a scandi name in its own right but no idea if it’s related to Christina. I like Kristen too.

MaloneMeadow · 21/10/2023 14:27

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/10/2023 14:02

If Cristina is middle aged woman , what about all the Ada’s and Ivys mentioned on Mumsnet. They’re old granny names! 😂

@43ontherocksporfavor Granny names that are also bloody awful! Thankfully apart from a few Ivys (inc. my poor niece) it seems that at least where we are the MN old name trend hasn’t quite reached us yet

I know two Christina's and both are absolutely beautiful. I really like it.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/10/2023 13:02

Why does everyone dislike "Tina"? I've never met a Tina who wasn't likeable.

@TheYearOfSmallThings It’s a middle aged woman name to me. Doesn’t mean that Tinas aren’t likeable, just wouldn’t choose it for a child!!

Watchthedoormat · 21/10/2023 13:05

Awful. Dated.
Also reminds me of a horrible girl at school

Lovely name

ManagedMove · 21/10/2023 12:58

I lobe it although am biased as the only Christina I know is lovely. She is always Christina but the shortened versions you mentioned are fab, the only short version I dislike is Tina... Although I know two of those now I come to think of it and they're great people too.

Rycbar · 21/10/2023 12:55

I’m 33 and it’s my name.
I also know quite a few!

MaloneMeadow · 21/10/2023 12:54

Very dated and had its day, any that I know of are all middle aged. Chris, Tina, Christi nicknames are awful as well. Agree with the PP comparing it to Sharon, Michelle etc.

19 year old DD went to school with a few girls called Kristen which I still wouldn’t pick but think is far nicer. More modern and graceful

pizzaHeart · 21/10/2023 12:31

I like it and it’s good that it’s not very common. I’m unsure about shorter versions as it depends on a person some will suit Chris some Tina and some neither.
I wouldn’t associate it with Christianity at all, I might think that maybe her parents have mainland European connections but nothing religious.
