Stuck on Willem or Miles. Nn for Willem would be Bill. Anybody know any? Thoughts welcome!

Willem Dafoe’s name is actually William, but he changed it to Willem. Are you Dutch, OP?

I don’t mind Willem but he’ll be forever correcting people if you go for it. I like the nn Bill, and have never met a dog with that name.

I don't think anyone is suggesting you'll crumple. You'll probably lie down in the bath on Sunday and have that moment of realisation 'I shouldn't have been so horrible, and the way I doubled and then tripled down on it was unpleasant behaviour'.

I once met Willem Dafoe and he was the loveliest man.

I prefer the name Miles though.

KirstenBlest · 17/10/2023 14:33

I thought of Willem Dafoe and of Mr & Mrs Fogle.

Emelene · 17/10/2023 14:32

I do think Willem would be confused with William (which is a gorgeous name) so I would go for Miles/Myles.

momtoboys · 17/10/2023 14:25

Miles

Gizlotsmum · 17/10/2023 14:20

There is also a high chance of Willem becoming more popular after the release of ‘a little life’ not that it should stop you choosing it! I like both names equally.

DemBonesDemBones · 17/10/2023 14:16

@Fooshufflewickjbannanapants I mean I know people called Alan, but I wouldn't call a baby Alan. I don't understand what you mean.

Gnomegnomegnome · 17/10/2023 13:05

Prefer Willem of the two although he will forever have to tell people that it’s Willem and not William.

FloofCloud · 17/10/2023 13:02

Myles for me

dressedforcomfort · 17/10/2023 12:48

Miles is nicer by far

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 17/10/2023 12:36

I guess willem Defoe passed you all by?! I like both but whatever you choose as a nn they choose their own or their friends do!

DemBonesDemBones · 17/10/2023 12:35

Willem is just awful. Just call him Bill!

I think you're horribly rude too @Zone2NorthLondon

At some point the unanimity of condemnation should get through - you're awful.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 17/10/2023 12:11

I really like Miles

@Zone2NorthLondon . Pot Kettle Black.

Pot.kettle.black as dog names? Yes that works
as baby names less so

One of my nephews had nickname given to him as a baby by his mum. At school he started going by a different diminutive.

So you may call him "Bill", but he may decide he prefers "Will" or do something so he gets a nickname that has absolutely nothing to do with his name.

BTW I do know men called "Bill" and "William". I don't know if the "Bill"s are called "William".

My Uncle Bill is not a dog. I've worked with many Bill and Billys. All men. I know 0 dogs called Bill.

I've had a quick look at 3 dogs' names sites and Bill isn't listed.

Yes do tell me about all the magnificent ebullient Bills. It is still a dog name. My opinion is unchanged
You are somewhat over invested if you’re searching dog name websites to prove a point

I've heard dogs and cats with all sorts of names that are commonly given to humans.

In fact many dogs and cats are named after famous humans.
