Just curious of opinions, as its the only name me and DH both seem to like.

Honey Ryder, the character played by Ursula Andress in Dr No.

Snugglemonkey · 10/10/2023 23:34

It is not a name to me. It is sweet as a pet name, but it is not the name of a classy woman, or of a professional woman, or any kind of powerful woman that I can imagine. Though, maybe that says more about me and my inner prejudices than it does the name.

I think it's sweet!

Well, yes. And sticky...

Just try to imagine her a grownup with smirking male colleagues saying 'hello Honey'. It's a Bond Girl name, I suppose Honey wasn't quite as bad as Pussy...

megletthesecond · 10/10/2023 23:19

No. The local drug dealers family around here has a kid called Honey.

hazandduck · 10/10/2023 23:18

Love it.

Both my daughters share names with my childhood cats though so maybe don’t listen to me 😂

clipclop5 · 10/10/2023 23:18

Also think about nicknames - the only ones I can think of from Honey are things like Hon which would come off quite patronising when she’s older

FlowerPower12345 · 10/10/2023 23:16

Boo boo.

AgaMM · 10/10/2023 23:16

There’s a Honey in my office - I take it really hard to take her seriously with Honey as her first name.

Cowlover89 · 10/10/2023 23:16

No awful

babynothreee · 10/10/2023 23:15

I know mine and DH opinion is all that matters. But I do worry about how other children will treat my child etc because of a name.. I do think its lovely. I also like that it isnt very common, but maybe thats for a reasonBlush

I had a pet rat called Honey :)

The problem with Honey is its a bit diminutive when said to a girl. Like the dismissive 'Hi Honey, can you get me a drink,'... something you'd say when someone wasn't important enough to learn their actual name.

And then the whole MLM Hun thing.

I think I would find it hard to imagine having a boss with this name.

PollyPeep · 10/10/2023 23:15

I think it's sweet!

MrsPottomous · 10/10/2023 23:14

It’s what you want and no one else’s opinion matters - except dh of course!

BananaSlug · 10/10/2023 23:13

I wanted to name my first child this when I was about 14, lucky I saw sense 🤣

Bananaandmarmite · 10/10/2023 23:13

Adore the name Honey. My daughter has a friend named it. And it suits her and she’s beautiful.

Go for it!

babynothreee · 10/10/2023 23:11

Its funny you say that actually, it just unlocked a memory. When I was 5 I had a rabbit called Honey, clearly always liked the nameBlush

Delete this thread and don’t look at it again, someone is bound to come along and spoil the name for you.
Don’t tell anyone irl. Just introduce Honey to the world. People are less likely to be critical of a name once it’s already been given.

I see I was right!

mauvish · 10/10/2023 23:10

I think of it as very 1950s American. Is that a good or bad thing? Not sure!

clipclop5 · 10/10/2023 23:10

No, definitely not. Honey is a pet name, as in ‘oh honey are you ok’ not a real name.

Know a lovely golden retriever called Honey but certainly not for a child!
