Just curious of opinions, as its the only name me and DH both seem to like.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
merrymelodies · 11/10/2023 01:57

See the tree / How big it's grown...

ohsuzannah · 11/10/2023 01:32

My dog is called Honey 😂

Sorry, my first impression is stripper's stage name, but I'm old and boring. I personally wouldn't give a child either a pet's or a stripper name as a first name. I think it's okay to use it as a middle name though.

Yes, stripper name was my first thought.

My test for names, do they work for different jobs.

Christina to pick one at random.

Dr Christina Smith could run the hadron collider
Chrissy Smith could be in a band
Chris Smith could pick up rubbish
Tina Smith could work in a call centre.

Versatile. Now Honey could do all those things but people would WTF in many of them. You can say that your friend works in the NHS with that name but you could say that about literally any name. Baby Names is to know what people think.

And what I think is that isn't a name for a grown-up effective woman. It's a baby name or rabbits and rats it seems.

Namechangad12 · 11/10/2023 01:05

I love the name, but I wouldn't name my daughter that because I wouldn't want her to be mocked or bullied

Runnerinthenight · 11/10/2023 01:00

Jesus, what are you thinking!??

Aquamarine1029 · 11/10/2023 01:00

I grew up reading the Trixie Belden books, and her best friend was Honey Wheeler. I love the name Honey.

nocoolnamesleft · 11/10/2023 00:51

I fear it would be a name that would make it (even) harder to be taken seriously as a grown up professional woman.

Millybob · 11/10/2023 00:47

it is not the name of a classy woman, or of a professional woman, or any kind of powerful woman that I can imagine. Though, maybe that says more about me and my inner prejudices than it does the name.

Absolutely this! Women have enough obstacles in their lives without saddling them with a name that sounds like a sex-worker.

usernother · 11/10/2023 00:39

I think it's lovely.

lljkk · 11/10/2023 00:27

I think it's becoming more mainstream.
I strongly prefer it to a lot of MN faves.

Good grief @nancypowers1983 ! Posters are entitled to their opinions, without being told they're 'talking shite,' and 'throwing bollocks around.' The OP posted a thread ASKING what people thought of the name Honey, and people are telling her what they think!

How dare you rudely and obnoxiously dismiss other peoples views because you don't agree with them, and accuse them of talking shite?! Hmm The opinion of every poster on here is as valid as yours. Who do you think you are? Why are you so angry and salty??? Is your name Honey?! 😆

Edited

You ok? That was quite a big reaction. Given people have been quite blunt in their opinion about the name I'm not sure why me being blunt in my response is somehow triggering you but you do you.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/10/2023 00:11

We used to have a cocker spaniel called Honey. She was the best dog.

TogetherWeLearn · 11/10/2023 00:07

As she grows older if Love Honey are still trading she may get some jibes!

Again stereotypical but it strikes me as a 'girly' name and that may or may not suit the character of your child.

I worked with a woman who named her child Honey. The child is now a 22 year old woman and has had no problems with her name whatsoever.
She has a good job in the NHS, had no problems in school and nobody has had any issue with the name.
OP mumsnet will always throw around the bollocks about how your baby will never be taken seriously in the working world due to whatever name you like, believe me they're talking shite. Honey is a gorgeous name and if you and your DH love it then go for it. For what it's worth I love Dolly too as in Parton- one of the strongest and most admirable female role models around.

RogueFemale · 10/10/2023 23:52

Perhaps sweet for a little girl but you have to think of the adult woman she'll become. It sounds a bit porn name for an adult woman.

AlexaCanYouHearMe · 10/10/2023 23:52

🎶See the tree, how big it's grown🎶
But friend it hasn't been too long
It wasn't big
I laughed at her and she got mad,
The first day that she planted it
Was just a twig

🎹Then the first snow came and she ran out🎹
To brush the snow away
So it wouldn't die
Came runnin' in all excited
Slipped and almost hurt herself
🎶 And I laughed till I cried🎶

🎶And Honey I miss you, and I'm feeling good, and I'd love to be with you, if only I could............. 🎶

@babynothreee In answer to your question......... NO!

Got2getout · 10/10/2023 23:49

No, I think you’d be putting an extra hurdle in place for her once she’s an adult and wants to be taken seriously. It feels like you’ve already condemned her to being a ‘foolish little woman’.

You could pick a name beginning with H and just use Honey as a nickname at home perhaps?

Also, look up Honey Boo Boo - it might put you off the name.

scrivette · 10/10/2023 23:47

There is a Honey in DC's school, I thought it unusual at first but now it's just a normal name to me. The DC have never thought it strange.

MoulinPouge · 10/10/2023 23:46

Would the name Honour tap into something similar?

I sort of like the way Honey looks and sounds, and that it is unusual. However, it feels awfully diminutive in a way that is actually... a bit sexist maybe? Like calling your daughter Baby or Sweetie, or even Dolly (come across this one, don't like it for this reason). I feel that as a grown woman your daughter might not need or want her name to be another reason she is dismissed or patronised.

That said, in fairness, somewhat cutesy babyish names are also pretty trendy for boys right now. Eg Beau, Alfie. And slightly "unusual" cutesy names being as trendy as they are right now, probably Honey wouldn't stand out that much? I certainly don't see it being a problem at school.

And having worked with a senior person called Dolly actually and though I don't like the name it never caused me to treat her differently or view her without respect. It's more that I wouldn't feel that kind of a name would be a good fit for myself - as a professional and capable person I would feel saddled if I had a silly babyish name. But perhaps your daughter would love her name and not feel that way? And wouldn't be so alone among a tide of similar aged adults with "babyish" names.

Tricky!

sunglassesonthetable · 10/10/2023 23:46

If you like it go for it. Other kids won't care. It's the conventional names that are the oddities now

Don't tell anyone just announce it.

Poppins2016 · 10/10/2023 23:42

Reminds me of the actress Honeysuckle Weeks (not in a bad way).

Honeysuckle n.n. Honey?

theduchessofspork · 10/10/2023 23:39

Nah, it’s so babyish

And also like calling her Darling or Sweetie

letspopthekettleon · 10/10/2023 23:39

It's a no from me. Too sickly sweet and not something I'd want to be saddled with myself
