Just curious of opinions, as its the only name me and DH both seem to like.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It’s a name I would use for a dog-and have in the past.

use it as a middle name but it’s a bit twee and ick for IRL

Boo boo.

This! 😂

villamariavintrapp · 11/10/2023 10:00

I think it's the kind of name that might be very cute for some people, but wouldn't suit lots of people at all. I wouldn't like to be called it, it wouldn't suit me.

PickledScrump · 11/10/2023 09:48

It’s a bit in the similar vein of Dolly, Princess, Baby etc. like a pet name rather than an actual name. Likely people will make certain assumptions based on the name. It’s not awful but not something I’d saddle a person with for their life

I understand that it doesn't sound very professional. But in my DS and DD class, a lot of the children have "cute" names. Like pp said, I'm sure she'd be in a tide of other adults with names that aren't deemed as professional.

I would also be using a middle name, which she would obviously have the option to use if she didnt like her first name.

The stripper / sex worker comment has put me off slightly, I do see that..

Is it that common? I honestly don't think it'll be a tide, more like a trickle (compared to the majority tide of people with grown-up names who are not limited in their careers/life)

🤷🏻‍♀️

Right…?!

I mean yes, she will be amongst peers with equally ridiculous names. But likewise, there will also be lots of kids whose parents didn’t trip them up at the first stumbling block. .

Honestly - why would you….?

MollyMarples · 11/10/2023 09:27

I taught a Honey once. I felt ridiculous and inappropriate calling a child Honey. I remember a new TA looked at me funny when she thought I was calling her Honey as in the Americanised ‘sweetie’.

WaltzingWaters · 11/10/2023 09:24

Sounds a bit pornstar/stripper ish to me.
But if you use it people will soon get used to it.

AgaMM · 11/10/2023 09:23

sparklefresh · 11/10/2023 09:20

That says more about you than it does about her, TBH.

🤷🏻‍♀️

I do like it but it makes me think stripper name so I'd never use it.

sparklefresh · 11/10/2023 09:20

AgaMM · 10/10/2023 23:16

There’s a Honey in my office - I take it really hard to take her seriously with Honey as her first name.

That says more about you than it does about her, TBH.

@ErrolTheDragon West Knoyle? That is a village that has got a herd of bison!

No, the point was that my village doesn't have any!

Totalwasteofpaper · 11/10/2023 09:17

It's a No from me.

All I can think of is the (dire) Jessica Alba movie Honey...

cptartapp · 11/10/2023 09:15

PollyPeep · 10/10/2023 23:15

I think it's sweet!

The exact reason to avoid.
Sweet on a toddler. Not on a 46 year old woman.

marshmallowfinder · 11/10/2023 09:14

One of our staff members is called Honey. It's a nice name and works just fine for her! No one thinks anything of it, just completely used to it and normal.

PeskyRooks · 11/10/2023 09:13

GodDammitCecil · 11/10/2023 09:05

Oh God, the only thing worse than Honey…. Hunnie….! 😵

MK19590 · 11/10/2023 09:00

I went to school with a Hunnie. That was her full name on her bc not a nickname for anything

pumpkinspicedbogroll · 11/10/2023 08:44

I've met Brie, Peach, Brandy, Apple, Sherry, Dijon, Barley and Cherry.

They’re all as bad as Honey!

CurlewKate · 11/10/2023 08:49

@ErrolTheDragon "Wikipedia says it's Susan
(But then again Wikipedia used to say my village has a herd of bison)"

That's interesting- especially the bison! Her mother was Susan. Perhaps she changed it-or I'm misremembering? I remember people saying "Seriously? Honeysuckle Hero??" Just like Mumsnet would now! 🤣

YourWinter · 11/10/2023 08:48

It’s a ridiculous and awful name to lumber a child with. Who’d want that as their name through their adult life? Save the silly names for pets and teddy bears.

pumpkinspicedbogroll · 11/10/2023 08:44

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2023 08:32

There are lots of people who are named after plants and food so why is Honey any different?
Plants, yes- but I'm darned if I can think of any foods used as names other than herbs. (Of course, there are dishes named after people)

I've met Brie, Peach, Brandy, Apple, Sherry, Dijon, Barley and Cherry.
