Just curious of opinions, as its the only name me and DH both seem to like.

No, I can say with certainly that I am very grateful to my parents for not calling me Honey. By all means use is as a nickname for something like Hannah etc.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 18/06/2025 10:16

Good for a golden retriever or a porn star

EzWin2 · 18/06/2025 10:15

My little brothers girlfriend (21) is called Honey and it suits her. I say go for it!

aquadog · 14/06/2025 19:44

This is the name of my golden retriever - as in, it's adorable but reserved strictly for a pet in my eyes!

AutumnFoxe · 13/06/2025 12:18

My cousin is called Honey and has no problems in life shes beautiful and well liked.

I know mine and DH opinion is all that matters. But I do worry about how other children will treat my child etc because of a name.. I do think its lovely. I also like that it isnt very common, but maybe thats for a reasonBlush

That’s a kid who isn’t running the country someday. Take a serious step back and think if its still sweet at 30. Hell no.

This is a name for life just not as a kid.

Think of your daughter and a lifetime of that name. You aren’t doing her any favours. Oh and Honey Boo Boo springs to mind.

GiddyCrab · 12/06/2025 23:39

Lovely for a dog.

Jeschara · 12/06/2025 16:33

Reminds me of adults who call everyone hun/hon. It's a name that sounds sickly sweet.

RobertaFirmino · 09/06/2025 15:32

Honey isn't even her real name, it's Susan.

midlifeattheoasis · 09/06/2025 15:13

Awful name

rainbowstardrops · 09/06/2025 15:11

I’m fairly sure the baby has been named by now!!!

roshi42 · 09/06/2025 15:10

I like it a lot but Mumsnet is incredibly hidebound when it comes to names. I’ve met a teenage Honey and she was lovely, I thought what a nice name it was. Jonathan Ross’ daughter is Honey. Not sure if that’s helpful though!

Ah, didn’t realise it was such an old thread! Would love to know what name they decided on 🙂

Spinachpastapicker · 09/06/2025 14:57

zombie 🧟 thread

Could you like Honey as a nick name?
Honor - Honey
Honoria
Beatrix
Beatrice - Bee - Honey

LoudBee · 09/06/2025 13:29

Old post but… my daughter is called Honey, I have lots of compliments for her even now she is 8 years old! I have no regrets, I love it, she loves it and it will still be lovely at 30, 40, 50 ,60 , 70, 80 years old!

RogueFemale · 12/07/2024 22:03

This thread dates back to October 2023.

Startingagainandagain · 12/07/2024 16:57

No.

Certainly will not help when trying to be taken seriously at work and as an adult in general...

Use it as a middle name if you want but not as a first name.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/07/2024 16:43

I really like it

ToplessWordle · 12/07/2024 16:33

It's such a pretty name but, somewhat reluctantly, I have to agree with PPs that it isn't a name that will serve your DD well. It does make me think of strippers for some reason!

However, I also think that these thoughts of strippers or toddler names will be fairly fleeting, that she will "own" her name and once people get to know her, they won't still be thinking of strippers. So there is that, and at least it will be character-building.

Alternatively, Honeysuckle is a good alternative, with Honey as a family nickname. Or maybe Hortensia, Honey for short?

JadeSeahorse · 12/07/2024 16:10

Honestly OP, if you and your DH like it and it blends well with your surname then go for it.

You will receive some really disparaging comments on here at times.

Our DD has a rather unusual name - more so than Honey - which occasionally is suggested on MNet but which is always shot down as being dreadful, chavvy, Godawful etc.

DD has had this name for 30 years and IRL absolutely everyone loves it, says how beautiful it is and how it suits her so well. (Our DD has SLD so can’t comment upon how it would have affected her professionally but I do know she has always been the “Teacher’s pet” throughout her life so doubt very much she would have found it held her back in any way.)

If this name is calling out to you then go with it. I very much doubt you will regret it.

muddyford · 12/07/2024 15:56

It baffles me how often parents presume they are naming a baby, whereas with luck they are naming a person who will be an adult for 70+ years.

Wishimaywishimight · 12/07/2024 15:40

Just imagine her boss calling her into the office someday; "Honey, can I see you in my office?" Don't inflict years of teasing on your child, it's a dreadful name.

Wasn't there another thread recently where the OP wanted to call their child "Lovie"?

Seriously, what would you be thinking!

newcatmam · 12/07/2024 15:38

I grew up with a girl called Honey, she was very well loved at school and the name never seemed to cause her any issues. It fitted well with her surname too though so maybe think of that too.

needtoeatmoretakeaways · 12/07/2024 15:34

I think its fine. I don't know many people who use honey as a term of endearment anymore. Its a bit showgirl but not anymore than say Lola. She'll fit in with the other edible names
Olive, Clementine, Basil, Madeleine, Sage, Pepper, Poppy, Brie, Cherry, Hazel, Benedict, Ginger etc. I like the Matilda connection too.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 12/07/2024 15:32

My cocker spaniel is called Honey
