I like Margot, but not Monroe.

I actually really like names for twins (or even singular siblings) that begin with the same letter. I know it's not to everyone's taste but I love it!
That said my 4 children all have a different initial. 😁

I'm loving the sound of Margot and Maeve.

Margot and Evelyn sound lovely together

Marilyn and Monroe, surely?

I'd go with that combination if I was OP. And as well as dressing them in identical white dresses, I'd also make sure they always enter the room, sit, and introduce themselves in the right order.

😉

Edited

That was a joke by the way. I know how Mumsnet works!!! 😂

LOVE Monroe, Margot just isn't my style

If I was going to coordinate with Monroe, some personal favs would be -

Monroe and Maxine
Monroe and Malia
Monroe and Naomi
Monroe and Roxane (here me out.. Rock & Roe lol)

Monroe is horrid! - sorry!

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 11/10/2023 14:01

Love Margot and Adeline as a pair. Monroe is awful. Anastasia is okay.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 09/10/2023 22:47

No. And Munroe is terrible.

My dad's friend has twin daughters called Tiibitha and Tabitha, known as Tibby and Tabby.

He should have bought cats.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 09/10/2023 20:49

Another vote for Margot and Evelyn

Maireas · 09/10/2023 20:41

That's just cruel. Poor girls.

It's personal preference, really. What you like isn't what I'll like. I don't know why Margot is popular. To me it's awful. Marge and margarine. Margaret is horrible as well, like porridge. I don't like Monroe for a personal name - it feels nondescript and has nothing going for it, yet also seems pretentious and contrived, like names for cars. And reminds me of the phrase 'bagging Monroes' which for Scots and other mountain enthusiasts means climbing the Scottish peaks over 3000 feet.
Anastasia, no. It feels old and unappealing. And I dread to think of the pronunciations and spellings it will call forth. With Adeline, I don't know it. Is it French? Could be a bit like something medicinal, though. Adele is better, I think.

For M, I'd prefer Matilda or Mary or Miriam, Milly...I can't think... Just throwing out names here: Miranda, Minerva, Millicent, Marina, Melanie, Mireille, Mavis, Melinda, Mylene, Maya, Minny - oh, that mouse, so no. Molly, Monica, Mona.

You could go for the adjacent letter L, still keeping them next to each other but without duplicating and causing confusion with both being M. Lucy or Lucia (lu chee a), Leonora, Leontia, Leona, Lara or Larissa, Lulu, Lisa, Louise or Louisa. Lucinda, Lorinda. Lindy. Loretta. Lois. Lorraine. Laura, Lauren. Leticia. Not saying I like all of these, but just trying to think of names.

MollyMarples · 09/10/2023 20:21

Sorry, I don’t like either

ladygindiva · 09/10/2023 20:20

dingit · 09/10/2023 20:06

I have the same initial as my sister and never had a problem. Although my dad did used to call us the two little 'Ls'
I did have the same first name and surname as a girl in my class. That caused some confusion. And my male cousins both married a girl with the same name with dates of birth 2 days apart ( including the year). Both in the same village, their gp notes were often mixed up 😩

The big difference here is different date of birth, obviously.

ladygindiva · 09/10/2023 20:19

Everydayimhuffling · 09/10/2023 16:40

I think it's a terrible idea to give twins the same initial. You're asking for trouble with post and banking issues and CRB checks later. Remember that they are two little humans not "the twins".

Yes, this. I have twin girls and it so happened that two of the names near the top of my list ( both family names, both gorgeous) were the same initial and I just thought no. They are middle names though.

"Two little Hells" maybe???? 😜

CutiePatooties · 09/10/2023 19:30

Ooo, I change my mind - Margot and Evelyn has a better ring to it than Margot and Adeline.

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/10/2023 18:49

No. I'm not keen on Margot and Monroe is dreadful.
You are naming two individual human beings not a pair of kittens.

Mummy2mybear · 09/10/2023 18:43

ElizaMulvil · 09/10/2023 18:36

Another thought re Margot- it's a gift for people to call her maggot!

I'm sorry OP but I was also thinking this kids can be cruel I'm not keen on Margot or Monroe but that would be awful for her to be nicknamed maggot at school. Baby names is such a personal thing but this is better said now before its to late. X

If people get you seriously worried about that but you still like the name, you could us the alternative spelling of Margaux?

Though that falls foul of the lifetime spent spelling her name over the phone test. 😂

Daisymay2 · 09/10/2023 18:41

Whatever you do, different initials. As PP have pointed out two M Smiths with same DOB will give them all sorts of identity check issues later. I found it difficult enough when my GM with the same initial lived with us when I was a teenager- and we were not born in the same centuary so DOB made it easy with HMRC, NHS etc. Just think if one needed a DBS and the other had gone off the rails.
To answer your actual questions Margot is fair to middling , Monroe is awful.

MysteryBelle · 09/10/2023 18:38

I didn’t want to mention this but since several posters already have, my first thought when I saw Margot was maggot. I’m sorry. It is a nice name but it is so close in spelling to a horrible word.
