Stevie for a girl??

I have two DCs called Louis and Robyn. My husband is a Robert Louis Stevenson lover (though the names of our DCs are coincidental) and he thinks it would be funny to name our DD (due in November!) Stevie as a funny little homage to his favourite author.
While I have names I prefer, Stevie is growing on me but I don't know how common it is as a girls' name and I don't want her to be bullied.
Also is it ridiculous to have our three children be called Robyn, Louis and Stevie? Seems a bit obvious, so I'm not sure. But since Louis is the eldest they've always been Louis and Robyn rather than Robyn and Louis.

Would love some advice!

My nephews fiancés cousins daughter (keep up) is called Stevie and it’s never been commented on. Lovely little girl.

Love stevie in Schitts , link is 1 of my all time favourite TV moments.

As a side note, who are all these people being teased for their names? Honestly, I don't recall anyone being teased for their name. Maybe those who assume someone with a name slightly out of the nirn should consider their own reactions and why.

Go for it. Stevie is a lovely name. Also don’t feel that you have to have longer name to shorten it or to use Stevie as a Nick name

Crossinsomekindaline · 06/10/2023 09:52

My first love was a Stevie. She'd be 40 now. Still love the name but that's probably the dewy eyed association 😂

ActDottie · 06/10/2023 09:50

Omg he thinks it would be funny? That’s not a reason!!!! Poor children!!

That said stevie is a recognised girls name I think. I baby say a stevie who was a girl once and didn’t think anything of it.

Snugglemonkey · 06/10/2023 09:45

I love Stevie. I do not like Stephanie, but if you do, it sounds like you have your name.

AliceDownTheRabbitHole · 06/10/2023 08:51

I always think of Stevie as a girls name anyway. Short for Stephanie. Stevie Nicks, Stevie from Schitts Creek. I've never known a boy who's nickname is Stevie

YES! I came to write ‘Saddle Club’.

@DottyLottieLou "It's a great name for a girl. Love it."

Why is it great to give girls boy's names?

I have a boy's name, although it was a common name for girls in the Middle Ages apparently. I like it, and it's never bothered me. Other than one or two people thinking I was a man based on correspondence from me no-one ever comments on it.

Im sorry OP but life is bloody hard enough for kids in school let alone when they are called a mans name like Stevie. Go unusual for sure, but she’s going to be called Steve.

Stevie is not that uncommon for a girl. Yes, it is usually a nickname, but why on earth would she be called Steve? I don't live in the UK, but it wouldn't raise an eyebrow here.

SoRainbowRhythms · 06/10/2023 08:21

My dad wanted to name me Stevie (after Nicks) but my mum though I'd be picked on (it was the early 80s). So I'm Stephanie (her real name).

Kind of wish my dad had stuck to his guns, it's a cool name!

Its5656 · 06/10/2023 08:19

Go for it it's a lovely name. One of the female characters in Schitts Creek (my favourite show) is called Stevie.

Peasinthefreezer · 06/10/2023 08:15

Love the name Stevie!

Not much of a fan of Stephanie so for me just Stevie on the Birth Cert!!

BTW I have a child whose name is more associated with the opposite sex if the person is over 40! Really suits them and they have never been bullied for their name - so go for Stevie!

MyMitMoo · 06/10/2023 08:14

I'm a huge stevie nicks fan so i wanted to use it for DD but I chickened out.
I think unless youre upper middle class it can sound a bit blokey and rough geezer vibes, rather than the boho, floaty, cool girl vibes that I envision from the name (and we're firmly working class living on a council estate!) And I don't like Stephanie as the long name as they would enevitably be Steph rather than Stevie.
So I'm glad I didn't use it although I do like it.

Although I did think if I used Stevie and they wanted a more feminine or less unusual name when they were older, they could always use the nickname Eve/Evie which is obviously a super popular/common name at the moment.

@DottyLottieLou "It's a great name for a girl. Love it."

Why is it great to give girls boy's names?

DottyLottieLou · 06/10/2023 07:55

The poet Stevie Smith is from Hull.

DottyLottieLou · 06/10/2023 07:53

It's a great name for a girl. Love it.

Nicola721 · 06/10/2023 07:42

Horrible

geoger · 06/10/2023 07:41

Love the name Stevie.
maybe with the middle name Lana or Faye

Nicola721 · 06/10/2023 07:40

It's awful

CurlewKate · 06/10/2023 07:35

Stevie Smith's name was Florence.

lap90 · 06/10/2023 07:34

I don't like it.

With that said i've only heard the name in the US.

violetcuriosity · 06/10/2023 07:33

Stevie Nicks is my queen, I wanted Stevie for DD2 but OH completely vetoed it 😄

overthinkersanonnymus · 06/10/2023 07:32

OhYetAnotherBrickInTheWall · 05/10/2023 12:06

I know 2 Stevies (small girls). It’s becoming more popular and I like it. Immediately think of Stevie Nicks.

Me too

CurlewKate · 06/10/2023 07:29

@I don't think unisex names are a bad thing, people don't really care do they?"

Why don't people ever call boys by girl's names?
