Stevie for a girl??

I have two DCs called Louis and Robyn. My husband is a Robert Louis Stevenson lover (though the names of our DCs are coincidental) and he thinks it would be funny to name our DD (due in November!) Stevie as a funny little homage to his favourite author.
While I have names I prefer, Stevie is growing on me but I don't know how common it is as a girls' name and I don't want her to be bullied.
Also is it ridiculous to have our three children be called Robyn, Louis and Stevie? Seems a bit obvious, so I'm not sure. But since Louis is the eldest they've always been Louis and Robyn rather than Robyn and Louis.

Would love some advice!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think it's pretty, I'm mid 30s and I went to school with a girl Stevie, and although I know men known as Stevie as well, I always think of it as girls name. Stephanie w Stevie as nn is also pretty.

The Robert Louis Stevenson thing is weird but I don't think many people will make the connection.

Any other Saddle Club fans??

Yes! 😂😂 funny enough I then worked in horse racing and met a blond girl called Stevie who’s now one of my good friends

Potter23 · 06/10/2023 14:46

I had a childhood friend called Stevie, named after Stevie Nicks.
she was a friend in senior school and as far as I’m aware she wasn’t bullied.

I remember thinking it was really cool. I’ve never met another female Stevie.
personally I like it.
My own DC has an unusual name that I’ve seen slated on MN. I think it’s a personal decision, I think name your child what you want, yes they may be teased for their name, but if not a name children who tease will find another thing to tease about.

RosaElize · 06/10/2023 14:30

I don’t hate it and I can see it being very cool on a little girl, but the ultimate test is always would I want to be called it, and ai don’t think I would to be honest

Chickenpie35 · 06/10/2023 13:54

I'm 35 now but there was a girl in my primary called Stevie - Leigh and in college I met a Stevie - Lea.
I think it's a lovely name, prefer Stevie alone without the Leigh or lea though xx

I would just go with Stevie, it feels very modern and fresh whereas Stephanie feels quite 80s/90s. Plus loads of people will end up calling her Steph.

That's the thing with nicknames, you can't control them.

Not is always introduced as Stevie

Samlewis96 · 06/10/2023 13:41

I know a Stevie and she's got Stephanie on birth certificate. Nothing wrong in that name

Polecat07 · 06/10/2023 13:27

I had a Stevie in my class in high school. I'm sure she said her mum was a big Stevie Nicks fan. I think it's totally fine.

Idontwant2 · 06/10/2023 13:08

I have a sister named Stevie, she’s in her 40’s and she has never had any negative comments about her name, though when she was younger people did ask if it was short for Stephanie a few times.
Go with the name you like.

Ablar · 06/10/2023 13:01

I know two stevie's that are girls and can't say I've once thought of Stevie wonder

SpendingTooLongThinkingOfAUsername · 06/10/2023 12:54

Stevie is a lovely name for a girl...no-one is going to tease her for it! One of our daughters has what I considered a boys name when we named her.. River... named after River Phoenix. Seems to be more girls called River now, but at the time I'd never heard of any girls with her name

amybobs · 06/10/2023 12:49

Absolutely love the name Stevie for a girl .
My son is Louis and my daughters middle name is Robyn

trebarwith1 · 06/10/2023 12:47

I know a stevie and she is a little star! Love the name and also think of stevie nicks xx

pinderpoo · 06/10/2023 12:41

I have an old friend from school called Stevie. Her full name is Stevie-Leigh but was just Stevie to everyone. I don’t recall her ever getting teased or bullied by her name :)

LaurieStrode · 06/10/2023 12:32

Cinai · 05/10/2023 11:55

I’d say it’s a nickname. Can you call her Stephanie nn Stevie, then she has a full female name in case she prefers this later on, and the link to the author is not too obvious.

Yes, this.

redtomatoes · 06/10/2023 12:07

Same! One of my besties is called Stevie and I think it’s a gorgeous name for a girl! In her case it is short for Stephanie but nobody calls her that. I would 100% register a girl as Stevie.

AmazingSnakeHead · 06/10/2023 11:55

I haven't read the full thread so apologies if it's been said already, but the baby girl of the main character in the letdown is called Stevie, so there's at least a popular culture reference.

Rosesaremyfavouriteflowers · 06/10/2023 11:40

Yes I was a massive saddle club fan and it was my first thought too!

LakeTiticaca · 06/10/2023 11:23

Go for it. I know 2 female Stevies and they really suit it 😀

MrsDrSpencerReid · 06/10/2023 10:59

I love it!

I know a couple of Stevie’s and a Stevie-Lee, I don’t even think you need to use Stephanie as a full name if you don’t want to.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 06/10/2023 10:56

I had a friend at primary school over 30 years ago called Stevie. She got very upset when the dentist came and she got a yellow 'boys' card instead of a pink one.

Other than that - I like it.

CurlewKate · 06/10/2023 10:44

There are about 100 baby girls called Stevie born every year. Definitely not common!!

NoodleQueen90 · 06/10/2023 10:17

I went to high school with a female Stevie (I'm now 33). She was bullied relentlessly but I don't think it was because of her name tbh. She moved to the school from elsewhere in second year and had a facial disfigurement...teenage boys are fucking cruel!! Poor girl, I wonder how she's doing now.

Saammy · 06/10/2023 10:05

I taught a Stevie last year and she was hilarious. I definitely never questioned it but when I think about it, it’s actually quite a common name for girls where I’m from!

Threewheeler1 · 06/10/2023 10:04

Love it OP.
Like Stevie Nicks, who is an absolute legend.
Go for it.
