Barry or Bernard?

DS4 and I'm thinking Barry or Bernard. I already have Dennis, Doreen and Benedict.
I like unusual old fashioned names.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

There's nothing sophisticated about Barry. It's in the same league as a number of names with negative connotations like Sharon and Tracy that are very of their time but not old enough for a revival.

Chewbecca · 04/10/2023 22:24

Bernard is better than Barry. I think he could be a Nigel though.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 04/10/2023 22:21

Both terrible. Poor child.

intergalacticplanetary · 04/10/2023 22:21

Don't do this to your child.

Reminds me of a similarly awful name I heard a couple of years back at a baby group ... baby Boris.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 04/10/2023 22:19

Bernard

how about Jeffrey, Jeremy, Bram, Alan, Roland?

greengreengrass25 · 04/10/2023 22:18

Barry on Eggheads too

CrystalDay · 04/10/2023 22:17

Definitely Bernard.

S910441 · 04/10/2023 22:16

It's going to be uncomfortable giving birth to a child who's smoking a pipe.

It does stand out doesn't it. Though I can also imagine that line up of names at a local W.M.C.

It's the nerdy ugly extra character in a 1970s episode of Grange Hill.

This is not a good thing.

WanderingWitches · 04/10/2023 22:15

Are you naming pets? If you are, I prefer Bernard.
For a baby? Are you off your rocker? Hilarious 😂

WantToChangeUsername · 04/10/2023 22:15

Bernard out of the two, otherwise Bartholomew came to mind (as someone else has suggested too)

fancyfrogs · 04/10/2023 22:15

You cannot name a human child Barry

Barry is not unusual, though it is old fashioned, but not in a good way. It's a bit like Dave in style.

Bernard is better than Barry, just, but I don't like it. It will likely be shortened to Bernie.

Dave is fine. Barry is just the poor kid who had parents with really shit taste.

Of all the names in the world they could have chosen, they thought Barry was best (after their older siblings names).

There is just no redemption for the name Barry.

Pushkinini · 04/10/2023 22:14

Don't call him Barry. I remember a Barry at school and he always smelt of snot. Bogey Barry.

mathanxiety · 04/10/2023 22:14

I think Bernard is nicer.

Would you consider Brendan?

bleuclair · 04/10/2023 22:14

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 04/10/2023 22:07

Barry, Dennis, Doreen, and Benedict.

One of these names is not like the others.

It does stand out doesn't it. Though I can also imagine that line up of names at a local W.M.C.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 04/10/2023 22:14

Balonz

Whattodo112222 · 04/10/2023 22:14

Also instantly think of Barry in eastenders.

Just no OP

Whattodo112222 · 04/10/2023 22:13

Barry...

Are you sure you want your kid called Bazza or Baz for the rest of his life?

Vexxa · 04/10/2023 22:13

Prefer Bernard. What about Bertram?

Oh or Derrick

melmonroe · 04/10/2023 22:10

Keith is better or Royston.

greengreengrass25 · 04/10/2023 22:10

Please don't

Both names are old mannish

bleuclair · 04/10/2023 22:10
