DS4 and I'm thinking Barry or Bernard. I already have Dennis, Doreen and Benedict.
I like unusual old fashioned names.

I like Bernard. How about Barney or Barnaby?

I know a Bernard who goes by Barney so could be an option if OP is set on Bernard maybe.

Barra is getting quite popular where I am. I think it’s Irish for Barry. Also Daire/Darragh/Dara popular too if you like the sound? One Barra, 2 Daire/Darraghs and 2 Cara/Carraghs in my 4 year old’s class.

Bernard is a nice name.

RobertaFirmino · 06/10/2023 00:24

Name him Bernard, after Bernard Sumner and you can shorten it to Barney. Alternatively, how about Barrington?

Noideawhatiam · 05/10/2023 20:26

Bernard definitely flows better with the other names. I think Bernie is much nicer that Baz.

Balthazar is lovely .

Bernard makes me think of Nursie in Black Adder

SabrinaThwaite · 04/10/2023 23:40

Maybe Finbar instead?

Unless your surname is Saunders.

Barry or Bernard?

See, I’m torn here. On the face of it I’m not keen on either, but in rl I know a Bernard who’s a bit wet, and a seriously cool Barry, so I’m tempted to suggest that.

Baz was also a Viz character. He was generally kept <ahem> satisfied by Sandra and Tracey.

HerMammy · 04/10/2023 23:31

I'm sensing a piss take here, kids called Doreen and Dennis? away you go 🙄😅 that's certifiable and child abuse

I still say go for it. A friend had a baby she named Roy, who is now 5 years old. Family at first were a bit horrified, but it suits him and has brought back a name that was popular in the 40's and 50's.

A lot of the B names have a strong consonant sound, therefore strong sounding name. And all the Barry singers were very popular in their day, they might look cheesy now.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 04/10/2023 23:25

I've always thought Barry should be short for something. You only made me google it...

A male given name Abbreviation of Bartholomew. A male given name Abbreviation of Barack.

But the again, I didn't think the world was ready for Ada and Violet to come back into fashion.

When will Percy and Walter be back?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/10/2023 23:25

We used to have a dog officially called Barney, who we actually always called Barry - Barrold Barrington if we were feeling fancy. He was a VERY good boy indeed.

Peachy2005 · 04/10/2023 23:24

Dreadful…probably best to go for Benedict so he can use Ben if he wants.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 04/10/2023 23:23

I've just read that 9 poor kids were named Barry last year.
