Very unique girl name (named after a holiday) ❤️ Will she be bullied? Is it cheesy?

My husband and I are due with our first child, a baby girl, at the end of February. I'll likely be induced 2 weeks early due to blood pressure which would fall exactly on Valentine's Day.

We have decided to call her our little lovebug.....

Valentine pronounced just like the holiday!

It will be a double-barreled first name, but she will probably go by either Ivy or Valentine since it's long. We love having both names included in her first name. A lot of people have been saying to just make it her first and middle name, but we aren't worried about it since most people will call her one or the other and she will have options like I never had.

What are your thoughts?? Do you think she might be bullied around Valentine's Day since it is the holiday of love? Kids can be mean at that age! We are set on the name completely but any opinions are welcome. She will probably be wearing a lot of heart themed clothing and pink and red until she tells me she wants otherwise hehe, is it cheesy 🙈 I love names that have a story relating to the child's birth. Even if she isn't born on Valentine's Day it'll still be close enough so it works for us.

I don't like the name Valentina. And we still call it a holiday even though we don't get it off work. Just like we consider our birthday a holiday, but we don't get work off.

Surely it ought to be Valentina rather than Valentine? And please, please, please don’t hyphenate it! I do think Valentina Ivy would be lovely though!

Personally I wouldn't because Ivy is close to 'I be', which is to me too close to asking to be someones valentine which I think would be something she would be made fun of. Nothing against ivy as first name and valentine or valentina as middle. Or go for something associated but removed like Ivy Rose?

My wee girl is River - Amari and Mia - Navara if you like it go for it!! Names are so different now days kids are different highly doubt will get bullied for it seriously, love the name go for it xx

I love all of the names they're beautiful, and I have a soft spot for River. Sounds like a cool crew of kids! Thank you for the support

That makes no difference Billy can be boy or girl, ashley can be boy or girl.. my daughter is River which can be boy or girl. It's 2023 names don't need to be set to a gender. It's a beautiful name no matter if boy or girl go for it how ever you want it

Ivy is popular these days so won’t raise any eyebrows.
Valentine is a male name. Should be Valentina. I think it sounds north European or Russian and people will assume it’s a family name.
I don’t share the hyphen hate and anyway she can drop it if she wants to.

Do bear in mind that: A - Your induction day may change and B - She may arrive on the 15th or even 16th! With this in mind, I've looked at the dates and discovered that the 15th of Feb is World Hippo Day and the 16th is National Almond Day. If she ends up being born on the 12th, you could call her Darwin (a fine name!) as it's Charles Darwin Day (as well as being National Plum Pudding day!).

FWIW, the name 'Ivy' is not unique. You can thank Beyonce for that. It's a very nice name, plant/flower names usually are but there will be many little Ivys around. Like the plant itself, it has spread like wildfire.

16th is National Almond Day - ooh Amandine is another fave (French) name of mine. It means “much loved” and “served with almonds”. There ya go OP if your induction lasts a couple of days. Mine took four.

Valentine is originally a boy's name but it works for a girl if pronounced "Val en teen".

Drop the hyphen though unless you're one of the Waltons.

If you expect her to be called one name or the other, then introduce her by your favourite name whether that is Ivy or Valentine.

Yes Valentine is a boys name. Ivy-Valentine is ridiculous, lose the hyphen at least. Also you're only what 4 months pregnant?? You have no idea if you're going to be induced, or when your induction date will be.

As you are naming your child after a saint, not a holiday, I think the name is fine, but I agree with leaving out the hyphen.

It would be a difficult name for her to learn to write at nursery/reception.
Hyphens don’t work that well nowadays with all the computerised printing of things like travel documents etc, room for error which can sometimes cause you problems.
Valentine is traditionally a boys name, you could have Valentina.
Other than that, I love the sound of the name too. But you do need to think about the practicalities for your child. Maybe try harder to make your mind up and choose one as her first name. Or something else entirely and add these as middle names.

I think Ivy-Valentine is a pretty name for a girl and I even like the hyphen! I have a female friend who chose Valentine as her communion name and have always thought it's cool.

You should go for it. It's far from a "tragedeigh" (Reddit reference for the uninitiated).

When I read you describing Valentine's Day as a holiday I instantly figured "oh OK, OP is probably American". Some posters here seem rather irked with you for not being British just like them 🙄

Fine! know people with Valentine as middle and first names actually men as St Valentine was male but fine for girl too.
First name shortened to Val.
Think people when seeing two names assume one middle name.

Please find hypenethated the name. It sounds awful and she will get teased over it. Also an induction on a set date doesn't mean baby will be born that date. The only one of my 3 kids that were born on the date predicted was my youngest who was an elective c section. None of my kids came in there due month let alone due date lol

I like it as 2 separate names, so first and middle. I personally don't like double barrelled first names and the names are both beautiful on their own.
