Jesse - yay or nay?

I’ve always liked Jesse for a boy. OH not too keen, he thinks it’s too American. I did a quick look on our customer database at work, it’s not a common name by the looks of it but there are a fair few knocking around in my corner of the county. They can’t all be Americans surely.

Is too American?
Too girly?

Thanks 😊

My 6 year old is called Jesse, I wasn't keen at first but his dad persuaded me, he has a J last name too and it flows really well. I was concerned about the big Jesse thing but I think that's a generation thing as I haven't heard it for years.
We Nick name his Jess and also Jester or Jesteroni pepperoni

It’s one of those names where if you’re a cool, good looking teen, you’d not only carry off the name, but give it serious cachet.

If you’re not cool, you’d get endlessly teased for it.

If you can predict which one your DS is likely to be, that might help.

shoopshoopdedoo · 03/10/2023 06:55

I’m not keen, for the same reasons you mention.

Jesse James and cowboys. No problem with Jesse.
It's not too popular and that is a plus.
It's cute though not in my top twenty.

Forgotmylogindetails · 03/10/2023 00:55

love it I got a Jesse James in the family

CallieQ · 03/10/2023 00:53

Quite like it

PTSDBarbiegirl · 03/10/2023 00:43

Yes it's absolutely beautiful for a boy, love it.

theduchessofspork · 02/10/2023 23:50

I love it

Faint hint of Americana and biblical, like Caleb, and nothing wrong with that.

Doesn’t that Jess/ica / Jessie is a girls name - no one worries about Alex or Francis/Frances.

You big Jessie is not in common use anymore

go for it

Sleepnplay · 02/10/2023 18:01

Love it, one of my faves

Lightningrain · 02/10/2023 17:59

I know an adult Jesse (twenties) and a 4 year old Jesse. It really suits both of them and I like it. I don’t think either have had negative comments about their name.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/10/2023 17:58

I LOVE the name Jesse. I've known a few and they are all lovely chaps.

RuthW · 02/10/2023 17:56

Too girly for me.

LilyLemonade · 02/10/2023 17:54

Love it.,

NotFastButFurious · 02/10/2023 17:27

nay!
for all the negative reasons given above

Minxy78 · 02/10/2023 16:45

Yay! I have a 12 year old Jesse, it's a great name!

miniaturepixieonacid · 02/10/2023 16:21

I love it, it's my favourite boys' name.

TotalOverhaul · 02/10/2023 15:00

I love it. It's a good old biblical name.

Tinytigertail · 02/10/2023 14:57

I really like Jesse for a boy, go for it!

StoatofDisarray · 02/10/2023 14:51

Yay!

Babyboy2000 · 02/10/2023 14:46

@Brownhairdontcare That is not true. I'm a pastoral team worker at a school, and children MOCK other people names. Perhaps, it didn't happen to your kids but it occurs.

Dizzydeers · 02/10/2023 14:33

I love it but wasn’t brave enough to use it 15 years ago when I had the chance.

Beamur · 02/10/2023 14:30

I really like it too

LadyEloise1 · 02/10/2023 14:27

Carly Simon has a great song called Jesse.
I presume it's about James Taylor as they were married at one time and he featured on the single.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/10/2023 14:16

I really like it and have taught a few. The most recent was lovely but also an absolute unit and I don’t think anyone would have dared to make any ‘big Jessie’ jokes to his face!

NiceParkingSpotRitaThanksJanet · 02/10/2023 14:12

I love it!! I wanted to call my son Jesse but his dad's best friends little boy has the name so he wasn't comfortable using it. Now I'm pregnant again and if its another boy I'll be trying to persuade him!
