Names to go with Elliott

Hummusanddipdip · 30/09/2023 17:31

DH and I are having a second boy, we used the only name we could agree on for ds and his middle name is our dad's name (they have the same first name)

We've banded names about but can't agree on a name, ds has said he likes the name Elliott, it's ok neither of us dislike it and have agreed it'd be a nice middle name. But we're struggling with names, some that we've suggested are:

Archie (Archer or Archibald)
Sebastian
Calab
Billie

I like Eli and Lloyd
DH like Harry and Louis

Louis would be a nice nod at family as my middle name, sil middle name and both our mums middle name is Louise (can tell we were all born between 1970 and 1995 🤣)

Can anyone suggest anything that we may not have thought of? Or offer thoughts on what we've discussed that may change one or others opinion?

Watch out for initial spelling with Eliott as a middle name

KirstenBlest · 04/10/2023 20:50

@ElliotName , if the books are anything like the baby name websites there will be dodgy entries.

MarvellousMrsMama · 04/10/2023 20:09

I have a Zachary Elliot 😊

Elliott is the original spelling of the name, Elliot is a varient of that. We discovered this while having a spelling crisis actually in the registry office and the registrar googling it and the 3 of us going down an Elliott spelling rabbit hole when we were supposed be registering the baby 🤣... the surname/first name thing doesn't make a difference, its just how its ended up in different families. I think both spellings are lovely..but I'm autistic and double L double T felt more balanced to my brain 😁... bit like lining up my pens in colour order in even numbers !!

Edited

Oh really! I went off a baby book which said Elliot was the original spelling and of French origin (I'm French so that biased me to this spelling!).

I do find a few things confirming this online, but it seems Elliott is the original Scottish spelling. So I guess they're both right!

I like both, it's when family or friends start using just one L or introducing a Y I get a little cross 😂

We have an Elliot. Two TTs is the surname. People do spell it in multiple different ways and it does drive me a little crazy as Elliot is the one and only correct way 😊

There are so many around where we live for some reason, I'm gutted as I thought we were being original.

But back to the original question: Owen, Alex, Tom

Alexander Elliot
Arthur Elliot
Anthony Eliot

I like Henry and Louis, but I think since your older DS has a name that honours his grandfathers, it would be a nice nod to use Louis.

Archibald Elliott and Lloyd Elliott are my favourites.
Archie and Lloyd are very sweet.

Others ..
Lexton Elliott - Lex
George Elliott
Darcy Elliott

Your little boy will have a huge amount to live up to if you name him George Elliott. To complicate matters, she was a woman whose birth name was Mary Ann Evans.

Billie Elliot or Eli Elliot?

Pull the other one

Theoldwoman · 03/10/2023 00:24

Cameron Elliot
Sebastian Elliot
Francis Elliot
Damon Elliot
Kane Elliot
Patrick Elliot

KirstenBlest · 02/10/2023 13:17

It won't matter which way you spell it, some people will spell it differently.

Archie (Archer or Archibald) - not keen on Archie but Archer and Archibald are both awful
Sebastian - ok
Calab - Caleb is the usual spelling
Billie - Billy is the usual spelling

I like Eli and Lloyd - Eli Elliott is not good. Lloyd is great but Lloyd Elliott Dipdip is a bit like Price Cooper Waterhouse or something
DH like Harry and Louis - but not William and George?

TunnocksTCake · 02/10/2023 12:34

@Hummusanddipdip it can be double t for first name too, theres no right or wrong historically, I have looked it up as considering it too! To me double L double T is the better spelling but its personal preference.

BucksOxonMum · 02/10/2023 08:03

We have an Elliot James. Absolutely love it, he’s the only Elliot that we know too.

KirstenBlest · 02/10/2023 07:45

The film is Billy Elliot. The surname is usually spelt Elliot.
The men and boys I know who have Elliott as a first name use the -tt spelling but one is Eliot.

supersonicginandtonic · 01/10/2023 07:03

My son is Dominic Elliot

SpanielsMatter · 01/10/2023 06:15

Just be aware that it will often be spelt in a variety of ways.Have a friend with it as a surname and the removal of letters drives them bonkers.

I've got an Elliot and I still love the name. We've not come an across an awful lot of people with the same name either.
Mine is Elliot Matthew which I thought flowed well.

Hummusanddipdip · 30/09/2023 18:29

I hadn't even thought of Billie Elliott and the movie/musical connection to be honest, I wouldn't do that to a child.

To be honest the only order of names I've even said out loud is Archie Elliot(t)

The Louis Louis is on two separated lines, not sure why it's showing together for some people. It's that dh likes Louis and that Louis would be a nod to middle names of immediate family memebers.

I never knew to tts was exclusively the surname spelling for Elliott, I've worked with children with it spelt both ways 🤷‍♀️

I prefer the spelling Calab to Caleb, but opinion taken.

Thanks everyone :)

Elliot is the better spelling. The surname has two t’s.

I would just go with Elliot if you all like it.

AmyandPhilipfan · 30/09/2023 18:26

I would never use Billie as people would always assume that's a girl if they see it written down. If you want to use Billy, which I don't dislike, I would put William on the birth certificate.

Mumofgirls2017 · 30/09/2023 18:22

I like archer or Sebastian.

arthur elliott

You can’t have Billie Elliott

Elliot with one t better
Archie Elliot or Louis Elliot are nice
Zachary Eliot

It's one T in Elliot for a name and 2 Ts if it's a surname

I must admit I hesitated when I wrote it with 2 ts just now
