Regretting our name

Janie1234 · 21/09/2023 17:23

Well we named our daughter Giuliana, but now I’m having name regret and don’t know how to shake it. Did I make a huge mistake?
is it hard to pronounce when first looking at it? Does it look weird? Maybe I should change it?

what do you think of this name?

It's a beautiful name.

muddyford · 21/09/2023 20:44

It's beautiful.

therealcookiemonster · 21/09/2023 20:43

it's quite nice I think. different without being insane. on which note please can you have a word with the poster who recently started a thread stating she was naming her child to be austyn rebel (if a girl) or Billy brave (if a boy) and explain post naming regret?

rentreenothanks · 21/09/2023 20:36

I think it's beautiful and love it with the italiana spelling.

froway · 21/09/2023 20:35

If you’re not sure I’d seriously consider changing it. It’s surprisingly common (as we found out from the registrar when we were changing one of the dcs names!). Best thing we ever did, no regrets. You have 12 months from the date that the name was registered. Good luck with your decision.

Sundaygirl01 · 21/09/2023 20:31

I have seen the name (never met one) but didn’t know it was pronounced Juliana. I would change the spelling.

Alopeciabop · 21/09/2023 20:26

i love it. And definitely prefer the Italian spelling. I had similar with one of mine actually. I think a lot was trauma because I actually had really liked the name. It took a while to get better. I feel like if I had changed it I would have regretted it as I would have met people with the name further down the line and been like oh noo that was actually the name. If that makes any sense.

your mum is the issue here. Not the name.

Janie1234 · 21/09/2023 20:16

I wrote this in regards to the other posters comment about her family members telling her to change her baby’s name, not people’s opinions on my post. I do want to k ow people’s honest opinions

Surprised more people here don’t know this spelling from Giuliana Rancic from E! I’m clearly getting old!

PaprikaPlease · 21/09/2023 20:13

I taught a kid with this name and everyone would remark ‘what a beautiful name’. It’s lovely and the G spelling makes it super lovely imo.

greggstomelette · 21/09/2023 20:03

Gorgeous name, I love it!

People should just keep those thoughts to themselves!!

Sorry but you did ask

PinkRoses1245 · 21/09/2023 19:52

Honestly I’d hesitate before saying it out loud. My best guess would be ‘Juliana’. Can you use a shorten version?

Exasperatednow · 21/09/2023 19:48

I love it.

IsadoraQuagmire · 21/09/2023 19:46

I have a friend called Giulietta (Italian family, but grew up in England) She generally tells people her name is spelled Julietta, when we first met she said it was "easier" to do that. If it were my name, I'd stick to the correct Italian spelling, though I do think Julietta (and Juliana) are pretty too.

I was already feeling a little doubt but her comments didn’t help and i think made me doubt it more.
sorry to hear about your family doing that, that sounds terrible and it does put a damper on what should be a joyous time

Would you feel differently if your mum hadn't made the comments? That probably gives you the answer...
I have similar feelings about my son's name and he is now 6 months. My whole family started asking me to change it before we even got home from hospital and told other relatives the baby hadn't been named for a few weeks, hoping we'd change it. I was distraught and wanted to change it but my DH wouldn't agree. I still don't know what to think, but i know I wouldn't have felt this way if my family had liked it. It was a terrible experience straight after birth and I think I'll always be very sad that such a special time was tainted so badly.

Janie1234 · 21/09/2023 19:11

Thank you. It’s nice to see lots of people liking the name. I think part of my insecurity with the name is that I felt pressured and maybe my hormones were all over the place. My family puts a big emphasis on names and the fact that my mother is not keen on the name makes it extra hard to love it. She always mentioned how much she loves my other kids names but after we announced Giuliana she basically told me she wasn’t a fan

My mum didn’t like my son’s name when he was born. She told her friends that he had a different name, it was very upsetting but now she is used to it and likes it!
it was such an unnecessary way to inflict more hurt on me when I was already vulnerable, but it’s in the past.

Do what you think is best, don’t listen to anyone else!

It’s very pretty but I can understand why people are getting it wrong. I love Gia/Gigi as a shortened version.

What would you change it to? Juliana or something completely different?

Gigi is lovely.

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 21/09/2023 18:58

I like it.

IdealisticCynic · 21/09/2023 18:57

It’s a beautiful name. The Italian spelling is very pretty and lends itself to nicer nicknames. And it’s wonderful to have a link to her Italian heritage. Don’t worry OP.

NotABeliever · 21/09/2023 18:53

Italian speaker here.
It's a beautiful name. If you're bothered by people getting the spelling wrong or not knowing how to pronounce it, change it to Juliana.
I have a friend with a daughter called Juliana and spelled this way. They call her Jula.

SkaneTos · 21/09/2023 18:50

Giuliana is a very pretty name!
Do not change it! It's lovely.
