How do you pronounce Evelyn?

I’m just curious what the most common/classic pronunciation is.

When I was at school there was an Evelyn in my class, and she’s probably the only one I’ve ever known, but my partner has also known a couple of Evelyns and they were pronounced differently.

So what sounds normal to you?

  1. Eve - Lin
  2. Ever - Lin
  3. Ave - Lin
  4. Something else?

My mum and all the ones I've known/met (at least 6) - Ev-lin

I'm a teacher in Scotland. I've never heard pronounced any other way.

I teach, all of the Evelyn's I've come across (loads) have been Ever- lyn. I am alsi aware of the Ev- lyn pronunciation but not come across it. I'm in the South East/Home Counties

Can't be that wrong, Eve-Lin is how my 100 year old Grandma pronounces her own name!!!

Ev Lin is most common where I live so that's usually my default followed by Eve Lin. I've only met a handful of Ever Lin's and I've met a lot of children (supply teacher).
