Cute or naff?

Sounds retro cool. I’m so bored of the heavily voweled, ‘a’ ending names for girls. Suzanne is much sharper and quite bold.

I prefer Susanna (without the h). Suzanne is dated, and not enough to be a vintage name, like Arthur and Mabel. It peaked in the 70’s so there’s a while to go before it sounds fresh again. That said, it’s not an objectively bad name, so if you like it there’s no reason not to use it.

For me it’s in the same generation as names like Denise, Annette, Diane, Linda etc. which for me is my DM’s generation and not quite back in yet.

I do like Suzanne more than most names of that vintage though, although I really much prefer Susanna/h.

It’s apparently becoming trendy in France again though - was in their top 100 names for girls last year.

Lovely

Susannah is one of my favourite names. Beautiful and classic. Plenty of nn's.

Not keen on Suzanne.

TrustPenguins · 14/09/2023 19:07

I prefer Suzanna.

There is a 10 year old Susan in our school.
Susie is quite sweet. Don't like Sue.

DuploTrain · 14/09/2023 19:07

I agree Susannah is nicer.

Suzanne does make me think of someone 40 plus. But not old enough to make the name retro.

PurpleChrayne · 14/09/2023 19:06

I love it!

It's time for a comeback of the -anne names.

Roxanne
Joanne
Leanne

Prefer Susannah as also prefer 'a' endings for a girl
Also think Suzanne is possibly about middle aged but Susannah is more classic. Probably because of the 'a' at the end

happygolucky42 · 14/09/2023 19:03

Indifferent to it but I like Emiliana, wish I'd gone for that as I like 'anna' ending names.
