I prefer the French pronunciation of Clementine but love Clemency more.
Dahlia would be better known as the flower.

Do you like ..

Clementine

Love Dahlia, pronounced as it’s written dah-lia, don’t like day-lia.

Absolutely hate Clementine, sounds ridiculous to me

Hazelnut9 · 14/09/2023 21:09

I like Clementine / Clem / Clemmie
Dahlia I would want to pronounce Dar-lia, but I’m not sure if that’s right.

Mailys · 14/09/2023 21:08

Clementine, gorgeous name

WeeOrcadian · 14/09/2023 21:05

polkadotpixie · 14/09/2023 20:41

I love Clementine but hate Clem or Clemmie

I like Dahlia pronounced Day-lia but not pronounced Dah-lia

RainbowFish4 · 14/09/2023 20:41

Love Clementine

SorrowsPrayers · 14/09/2023 20:35

But doesn’t everyone pronounce it Daylia? I didn’t realise there was any debate over the pronunciation of dahlia.

I would choose Dahlia of the two but I also love Clemency.

No they don't.

Look up past threads about pronunciation. It's from the surname. 'Dahl' as a couple of us have said.

MerryChristmasToYou · 14/09/2023 20:26

@gm2023 , the flower is dail-ya but it's from Dahl. Similarly, Fuchsia is from Fuchsia is pronounced Few-sha.

whereismysleep · 14/09/2023 20:20

Dahlia

Dahlia of the two

Not mad about either though

Diana or Caroline?

Yoyoban · 14/09/2023 16:24

Dahlia

MerryChristmasToYou · 14/09/2023 16:21

What bleuclair posted.
I'm not keen on either of them, but if I had to choose, Dahlia.

bleuclair · 14/09/2023 14:20

Clémentine- though will you pronounce it the French way of Clay-mon-teen? Or the anglicised Clem-en-tyne.

Dahlia brings up the Day-lia or Dah-lia debate. It's from a surname and is a surname too. Nice enough

Sleepnplay · 14/09/2023 14:01

Dahlia for me, very pretty. For me, Clementine is nice in full, but as above I don't like Clem or Clemmie at all.

sawnotseen · 14/09/2023 13:46

Dahlia, lovely and could poss be shortened to Lia if she wanted. The only Clementine I know (24, friends daughter), has been called Clem or Clemmie for years and I don't think it's nice. She's a lovely young woman and Clem sounds a bit harsh.

Mintearo7 · 14/09/2023 13:34

Dahlia. I think Clementine will be prone to teasing in some circles, it isn’t recognised enough as a name in my opinion.

peaceinourtime · 14/09/2023 13:29

Dahlia. Clementine will end up been Clemmie.

QueeniePlumtree · 14/09/2023 13:17

Clementine
