Is this middle name strange?

Thinking of calling our daughter Olivia, middle name Bloom.

Is Bloom an acceptable middle name or is it too strange?

We wanted something unique and simple for her middle name to pair with Olivia, which is obviously very popular and thought Bloom was quite sweet.

Trying to avoid the more common single syllable names ie: Rose, May, Grace, Jane etc.

Thank you

Sorry, I think it's awful. Much better to not give her a middle name at all.

TwigTheWonderKid · 14/09/2023 13:27

I like it. Lots of parents give their child the mother's maiden name as a middle name and no one thinks anything of that.

Olivia Bloom. I like it, but it is very similar to Orlando Bloom.

This. Bloom as a middle name would be OK, but paired with Olivia it’s just too similar to Orlando Bloom for me.

ShadowPuppets · 14/09/2023 13:24

I’d also assume it’s a surname, DS has my maiden name as his second middle name. I’m not usually one for cutesy names but I quite like it!

peaceinourtime · 14/09/2023 13:22

Middle names can be what ever you want them to be. In fact I’ll rather have a middle name such as Apollo or Jupiter then a Cutesy middle name like Mae, Jane or Rose 🙄

Hibiscrubbed · 14/09/2023 12:19

It is strange, and that’s why I like it. Who wants to be like everyone else?

DisforDarkChocolate · 14/09/2023 11:53

I think it's lovely. I'd assume if was a family surname used as a middle name.

Bumblebee1988 · 14/09/2023 11:52

I'm afraid I don't like it but as long as you like it that's all that matters! Our children have fairly unique middle names that won't be to alot of people's taste but we love them and they have meaning to us.

If you are looking for alternatives what about Blossom? Or a flower that you love? Olivia Primrose. Olivia Iris, Olivia Violet, Olivia, Olivia Hyacinth.

Mamabear48 · 14/09/2023 11:44

I love it!

LetMeEnfoldYou · 14/09/2023 10:35

I know a gorgeous little girl called Bloom.

Its obviously very unusual but that doesn't mean it's awful.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 14/09/2023 10:00

I really like it, wouldn't be unusual at all in America.

I do tend to prefer interesting middle names though! My own DD has a much maligned (on Mumsnet) one that suits her perfectly and is light years better (imo) than the Rose and May types. And of course, they're rarely used / known outside the family so why not go a bit more creative?

yumyumscheeky · 14/09/2023 09:55

I love it. It sounds confident and someone you're unlikely to forget. I imagine an author or someone on the tv credits in the future...

DogInATent · 14/09/2023 09:13

Bloom is fine.
Blossom is ok if you're a pony.

davinasshorts · 14/09/2023 09:10

It's a surname. It's a bit strange but no more so than other popular names

Gruelle · 14/09/2023 08:35

I like it!

It’s unusual - but not weird or offensive or embarrassing in any way. And it’s pretty.

annahay · 14/09/2023 08:27

I know a little girl called Bloom. I think it's sweet, but not sure how it will sound when she's an adult. I think it would make a lovely middle name.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/09/2023 08:14

Olivia Bloom sounds like a character from a Jane Green "novel"

BadHairBae · 14/09/2023 08:12

I really like it. Yes, it is a little surname like. But it's actually very cute

ChocolateCinderToffee · 14/09/2023 07:19

Fleur or Flora?

ShoesoftheWorld · 14/09/2023 07:01

Oh, and nobody calls their children Jane any more. That's your best bet for unusual tbh. If it has to be single-syllable or short, how about Ruth, Zoe, Joy, Mary, Fern?

ShoesoftheWorld · 14/09/2023 06:56

It's a surname. Makes me think of Ulysses (James Joyce).

There are loads and loads of names out there that aren't Grace/Rose etc and aren't surnames.

Tinytigertail · 14/09/2023 06:53

I think Bloom is really sweet and works well as a middle name.

pilates · 14/09/2023 06:42

Blossom is better

wherethedevildontgo · 14/09/2023 06:42

I really like it

BicOrange · 14/09/2023 06:40

Olivia Bloom. I like it, but it is very similar to Orlando Bloom.
