Would love to get thoughts on our girl name shortlist!

Annalise (I like this, and the nn Annie, or also considering Annie just as a name on its own)

Josephine -(nn Sephy - I actually LOVE Sephy on its own, after the Noughts and Crosses series, but not sure if I’m brave enough! Also like Josie as a nn)

Frederica (nn Freddie)

Sophie

Thank you so much 😊

Josephine.

I wanted Anneliese Josephine (nn Annie) if my last child had been a girl but he is not so we went with Frederick! I see we have similar name tastes.

I think you’ll be better off with your spelling of ‘Annalise’ though as the way I picked would have been misspelled all the time!

Josephine

Lovely list

Annalise (I like this, and the nn Annie, or also considering Annie just as a name on its own)

  • I love Annie and really like Anneliese. It's different but lovely

Josephine -(nn Sephy - I actually LOVE Sephy on its own, after the Noughts and Crosses series, but not sure if I’m brave enough! Also like Josie as a nn) - Sephie is a gorgeous nn. I've never considered it for Josephine, also a lovely name

Frederica (nn Freddie) - love it

Sophie - its ok but a bit dull in comparison

My choice would be Josephine nn Sephy or Frederica

piscofrisco · 12/09/2023 16:25

Any but Frederica.

I love Josephine and Annabel

RainbowFish4 · 12/09/2023 14:02

Thank you - also really like Annabel (I think we’d go with this spelling) 😊

Sophie, but prefer Sofia.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 12/09/2023 13:38

I like them all except Sophie which is just a bit boring compared to the others.

I love Annaliese (this spelling) but I automatically use the German 4-syllable pronunciation. Annalise spelling does feel more intuitive if you want the British 3-syllable, though I personally like it less.

I think Frederica is my favourite - feels surprising and elegant!

Cinai · 12/09/2023 13:34

I love Josie, the only reason why it didn’t make it on my own list was that I don’t like Josephine. Wouldn’t go for Sephy on its own because it’s a bit nickname-y.

Annalise - would go for Annabelle or just Annie

Sophie - nice but there are a lot of Sophie’s

Frederica - bit long, not really my cup of tea

Snoopystick · 12/09/2023 13:33

Annie is the best. Frederica is very “clunky” to my ears.

Crunchymum · 12/09/2023 13:30

Josephine is my fave from that list.

I love Annie the best though (not keen on Annalise)

LilyLemonade · 12/09/2023 13:30

They are all nice. I like Frederica perhaps the most.

For me, Josephine doesn’t readily lead to a nickname of Sephy (maybe Persephone or Seraphine instead). Josie or Fi would be more natural to me.
