What are your thoughts on the name Thor?

We have Danish heritage and seem to produce blonde, broad and tall boys. My partner absolutely adores this name...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Reminds me of the rhyme that ends

I’m Thor! ‘ he cried.
His horse replied
‘You forgot your thaddle, thilly’

Cant remember the beginning.

😀
There's a similar joke when Thor returns to a sex worker a few days later.

'Hello, I'm Thor'
'You're Thor!! I haven't been able to walk for 3 days!'

He'll probably get a lot of that type of thing op, so despite it being a lovely name, I wouldn't.

Tribblesarelovely · 08/09/2023 18:38

Absolutely not 😂😂
Having said that, I know a Thorstan. No one turns a hair at that.

JumbledE · 08/09/2023 18:31

I would definitely go with something like Thorin or Theodore and shorten it to Thor as a pet name if you are desperate to use it.

PureAmazonian · 08/09/2023 18:30

Not even for a pet

ThisIsTrifficult · 08/09/2023 18:27

Friends of mine have a boy Thor, but they are both over 6ft so he's likely to fit into the name!
At 4 he was bigger than my 6yo!

Its fine provided your kid grows up to look like the god of thunder rather than the milky bar kid or the uh oh baby man from cloudy with a chance of meatballs

GoodVibesHere · 08/09/2023 17:37

Thor GrinGrinGrin

DinnaeFashYersel · 08/09/2023 17:24

Don't

diditbark · 08/09/2023 17:12

I prefer Thanos.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 08/09/2023 17:12

What about Spider-Man?

Roselilly36 · 08/09/2023 17:11

I meet a lovely boy called Thor, his mum was Swedish, his name was pronounced as Tor.

How about Torin, Torben or Torsten, which could all shortened to Tor?

Some names actually amount to child abuse!

Nonsense.

Now excuse me whilst I tend to my son, ArseFingererButtMunchFuckwit, it's a family name.. we call him Arsehole for short..

The god of war rode out one day upon his favourite filly,
"I'm Thor!" He cried,
The horse replied,
"Then change you thaddle thilly"

😂

Nellieinthebarn · 08/09/2023 14:25

Loads of other less problematic names with a scandinavian heritage. Emil, Lief, Keifer, Oscar, Yan, Erik. All unusual in UK, but not so far out there to be weird and not so Godlike.

I know a little Thor and he’s most unThor-like. Don’t do it.

peaceinourtime · 08/09/2023 14:18

Go for a name like Leif, Soren or Mads if you want to honour it.

Oreosareawful · 08/09/2023 14:05

Jesus wept no

IlonaRN · 08/09/2023 14:04

There are lots of other Danish names that are even better 🙂
(There are lists of names approved in DK - have a look through those and find something else!)

UseOfWeapons · 08/09/2023 13:54

Great name, but not for your boy. Despite the heritage, it's not fair on him.
