DH name ideas

DH and I are very very unexpectedly expecting twin girls, I'm 39, he is 48. He already has one child, she's an adult now, and well I'd never say this to her face but I think her name is just awful (first name is a country which should never have been a name (ie not Georgia or India) then two middle names which scream I want to prove how middle class I am!!) As far as I know she likes her name so that's all that matters. The issue is, his name suggestions for these babies are similar in style.

So far he loves

India
Cherry?? Yes really
Dakota
Indiana
Blossom (though obviously not with cherry is what he'd follow this up with)
Teddy
Saskia
Alaska

I like

Madeleine
Florence
Isabella
Sophia
Elizabeth
Katherine
Victoria

So as you can see our styles are worlds apart, he thinks my choices are boring and "done to death" I think his are downright strange for a child.

I know I should have expected this considering his daughters name but I just thought maybe that was more his ex than him.

FWIW while he is comfortably off, his daughter attended a state school in the north as will our children so will likely not be surrounded by equally, interesting? Names.

Am I being unfair are some of his names useable? Any ideas that could bridge our Grand Canyon sized gap in styles? (gosh if I say that to him he will no doubt add Arizona to the list!)

I can't believe he'd suggest another country. What's the dog called? Papua New Guinea?

Atalanta? Sounds a bit like a place but is actually a name

aw I do think China is a lovely name. Yes I'm sure I'll be the odd one out.

people are often quite snobbish about names but all names are just words, who decides which ones are "allowed" to be used as names or not.

Florence is a place would that appeal to him from your list?

So something like Myanmar Tiggy Fiona? Glad she likes it…

I’m now just very curious about his other daughter’s name…… Peru? Argentina? Portugal?

Gosh I hope she never finds this, but her name is China.

Actually I think you'll be able to find middle ground as you seem to both like -ia and -a endings and feminine names.

What does he think of yours?

How about
Fenella
Fiona
Melissa
Georgiana
Serena
Aramintha
Diana
Alicia
Etc

Oh.... 😆

I quite like Saskia from his list!

I know a few Indie's rather than India, if that's any more palatable for you? 😂

How about Francesca (Frankie as an nn?)

TropicalTrama · 07/09/2023 14:14

What about Madison? Most Madeleines end up as Maddy anyway so it’s the same nick name and it fits with his American-ish style preferences.

I have to admit that I do like Saskia from his list though. The rest though, yikes!
