DH name ideas

ParrotPaula · 07/09/2023 14:10

DH and I are very very unexpectedly expecting twin girls, I'm 39, he is 48. He already has one child, she's an adult now, and well I'd never say this to her face but I think her name is just awful (first name is a country which should never have been a name (ie not Georgia or India) then two middle names which scream I want to prove how middle class I am!!) As far as I know she likes her name so that's all that matters. The issue is, his name suggestions for these babies are similar in style.

So far he loves

India
Cherry?? Yes really
Dakota
Indiana
Blossom (though obviously not with cherry is what he'd follow this up with)
Teddy
Saskia
Alaska

I like

Madeleine
Florence
Isabella
Sophia
Elizabeth
Katherine
Victoria

So as you can see our styles are worlds apart, he thinks my choices are boring and "done to death" I think his are downright strange for a child.

I know I should have expected this considering his daughters name but I just thought maybe that was more his ex than him.

FWIW while he is comfortably off, his daughter attended a state school in the north as will our children so will likely not be surrounded by equally, interesting? Names.

Am I being unfair are some of his names useable? Any ideas that could bridge our Grand Canyon sized gap in styles? (gosh if I say that to him he will no doubt add Arizona to the list!)

I can't believe you've named your SD having been nasty about her name in your OP! There can't be many teenagers with her name and all her friends have parents who could be here.

Yes!

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 07/09/2023 16:15

I really like the name India and Saskia is ok too.

What’s wrong with those middle names?

Sophia and Isabella are fine but immensely popular.

KayEmAy · 07/09/2023 16:14

Congrats on your girls! I can see the challenge haha

I think more "out there" names can make really cool middle names! There are also some classics that I feel I don't hear often anymore. Seeing as how my personal favorites come from both your lists, maybe there is a happy middle :)

Belle Victoria
Olive Saskia

Cassia Florence
Celeste Taylor

Thea Lavender nn Teddy
Paige Cassidy

Anna Quinn
Tess Madeleine

Maeve Josette nn MJ
(Demi) Demetria Rose

Jade Whitney
Roxanne Mae nn Roxy

Annika Renee nn Nik, Annie
Davina Shay

Anya Verity
Alix Elizabeth

Harlow Eve nn Lo, Harley
Stephanie Isla nn Stevie

Felicity Petra
Natalie Vienna

Stella Jane
Maxine Luna

Baye Madeleine
Erin Ivy

Samantha Teddy
Gemma Grace nn Gigi, Emmy

Aria Blake
Phoebe Blossom

Victoria - plenty of places named Victoria

Madison - this was my first thought

Adelaide is nice.

Other suggestions-
Savannah
Marnie
Marina
Jasmine

I'd get this thread deleted OP.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2023 16:10

I've seen an app called Kinder recommended on threads like this. You both go through and select names you like and the app tells you which you've both selected.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2023 16:09

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 07/09/2023 16:00

China wouldn't be my personal choice for a name, but at least it's far better than Turkmenistan or StVincentAndTheGrenadines. China Forbes is quite a well-known singer.

Wouldn't something like India and Cherry be strange, though - having two of them (not both of the twins) with country names and one with a non-country name?

stardust25609 · 07/09/2023 15:55

What about Sienna? Might hit both of your criteria - a bit less classic than your list, but it is a royal name now. Probably not to match with twin Florence though haha.

I also quite like the name Saskia, there was one who went to our state school and it was seen as a perfectly normal name. Although thinking about it now we also had a Cherry!

DuploTrain · 07/09/2023 15:54

Tabloids would love this OP.
“Mum to be fumes over husbands baby name choices and slams his daughter’s name as “awful” and “not middle class enough”.

I’d ask for it to be deleted personally. Mumsnet themselves use live threads as adverts on Facebook.

DivingForLove · 07/09/2023 15:35

OP, this thread is sooooo outing! If I were you I’d take a screenshot of the names you like and ask for it to be deleted! Your SD would be devastated if anyone saw this and sent it to her!

I have noticed, I'm sort of counting on the chances of any of a late teens girls friends spending time on the baby names board of Mumsnet being quite low!!

You could always start another thread with fewer details 😄

Although I understand the suggestion that you get to name one baby each I would advise caution.... I know twin girls where this happened & one has a lovely 'normal' name & the other has a very 'out there' name. One of them isn't pleased with the parent who named her (guess which one?!) Obviously you'll both have to compromise as your tastes are so different so I can see that it's really tricky....good luck & congratulations x

Carouselfish · 07/09/2023 15:26

Theodora shortens to Teddy
Indira shortens to Indy

Maybe doing something like that?
Or one daughter you get first, he gets middle, other daughter the reverse?

I just worry if are do one names one the other names the other we will end up either Isabella California and Cherry Elizabeth!!

DHs absolute favourites are Cherry and India and I just couldn't live with either!!

Going to suggest Adelaide and Florence as maybe that will meet both our needs!

momtoboys · 07/09/2023 15:30

I don't really have name suggestions but as a mom of twins, I gave in to my DH for a name he wanted for one of my sons and I have regretted it every since. Stand your ground. 😂

SweetAndSourChick3n · 07/09/2023 15:21

I like Saskia!

Puffwiththegreeneyes · 07/09/2023 15:20

Theadora nn Teddy?

Caroline (Carolina)

DuploTrain · 07/09/2023 15:19

Saskia is nice from his list. Are you sure you can’t learn to love that one. So that can be “his” choice, and then you can pick one from your list for the other baby.

BlueChampagne · 07/09/2023 15:16

Saskia is nice. Could be a NN for Alexandra and make you both happy?

Juno
Athena
Meredith
Ailsa
Corinna
Tamsin

newrubylane · 07/09/2023 15:04

You need something kind of classic with a twist. How about

Marina
Sadie
Nina
Stella
Wallis
Marnie
Rita
Wilma
Etta
Scarlett
Dora

I can't believe he'd suggest another country. What's the dog called? Papua New Guinea?

Ironically, the dogs and cat he has had since before we met have human names (Chloe, Max and Henry)
