Hello,
Opinions welcome, thinking about using Evan for a baby girl. What does everyone think?

I wanted to call my girl Rory. I compromised with Aurora on her birth certificate and she is now exclusively knowm as Rory, but has her 'proper' name to fall back on if she wants to when she's older

Buttercupsdaisiesdandelions · 09/09/2023 22:51

If I met a little girl named Evan, I'd think it sounded ok - but I'd assume that it was short for an actual girl's name - Evadne, perhaps?

romdowa · 09/09/2023 08:27

Evanna?

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 09/09/2023 08:14

Oh she's bound to be strong, successful, cool etc now she has a traditional boy's name 🤢

Daisybuttercup12345 · 08/09/2023 22:30

Awful.
Evelyn
Evie
Ebony
Eve

There is a girl in my sons nursery called Percy! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

But won't that just be short for Persephone?

FFSWhatToDoNow · 07/09/2023 07:39

Sorry, meant to reply to @muchalover

FFSWhatToDoNow · 07/09/2023 07:38

I know a Zenobia. Known as Zenny though.

crumblingschools · 07/09/2023 06:59

For everyone who thinks it’s great to give girls boys names, would you be happy to be called James etc?

heartdog · 07/09/2023 06:56

I know of a 10 year old girl Evan, it suits her perfectly and she doesn't get teased as far as I know. It has a history of being a unisex name, this isn't stealing a boys name.

Squ1ggle · 07/09/2023 06:23

Its perfectly nice as a girls name, the only Evan I know is an adult female and it suits her perfectly

I initially read it as Evian and thought NO! Evan is much better Grin

user1477391263 · 07/09/2023 05:53

Please, no.

It's a boy's name. It will get misheard as "Heaven." Names beginning with "Ev" (Eve, Eva, Evie, Evelyn, Everleigh etc.) have been done to death.

Elspethelf · 07/09/2023 05:43

I love it

HamBone · 07/09/2023 00:08

One of my friends ( in her 40’s) is called Evynn. I thought it was an unusual name/spelling, but I like it because she’s a lovely person!

jazzyfips · 06/09/2023 23:59

Just no

Beeswood · 06/09/2023 22:59

No

continentallentil · 06/09/2023 22:57

Why would you do that?

Just call her Evelyn or something

muchalover · 06/09/2023 22:22

One of my kids middle names is Evenhill. It's from generations back. I don't see Evan solely as a boys name.

We called the cat Zenobia (Bee) because a lot of women in the family had that name generations ago.

FuckingAnnoyed · 06/09/2023 22:17

Yvaine? Nicer in my opinion.

Inkypot · 06/09/2023 19:08

I actually really like it! It's unusual but without seeming like you're trying to be "yooonique". It's nice!

Daisypod · 06/09/2023 19:05

EdgeOfACoin · 06/09/2023 14:36

It follows the sexist fad of giving a girl a boy's name.

You wouldn't give a boy a girl's name. Ask yourself why not, and reflect on the reasons.

Hardly a fad, one of my mum's friends is calling Evan and she's in her sixties

The world is your oyster, as far as naming your daughter is concerned.

But you want a boy's name for her. 🙄

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2023 19:01

@Crunchymum , I disagree with you, but Stevie, Billie and Frankie could work for a girl.
