Hi all currently 26 weeks pregnant with my 4th.

we have been thinking of the name jahmaya.

Dd- jahnay
Dd- jahniya
Ds- josiah.

We are known as the j family as both my self and hubby both begin with J 😊😊

What do you think and how would you spell it?

Thanks In advance

Jahmaya or Jahmila or Jahmilia. Personally the final one as sounds similar but also a bit more unique.

I like those spellings

I don't understand your answer, @jadey1991 . My questions are how do you say them?
I guessed that the Jah bit was a reference to the caribbean.

Do you say Jahnay as Jannay or as Jah Ney?
Do you say Jahniya as Jan-eye-ah or as Ja(r)nia?

Sorry I must has misread..
You say it say jah-nay and jah-niya.

Jahlisa? Jahlissa? Jahnelle?
Jhamaya is pretty but far too similar to her sister.

I think the reason you're drawn to the name is because you've already used it for your other two daughters. I know in some cultures it's very popular to use very similar names with slightly different endings for siblings, but in UK mostly people will think it's strange. If you like it, and your existing daughters like it, then I'm sure new baby will be fine with it too.

Agreed thanks. I'll think about it. Wait till she is here I suppose.

I’d spell it the way you’ve written it here.
So that they are all all matching Jah (except Josiah)

Thanks.

Dd- jahnay. Is it said as Jannay?
Dd- jahniya Jan-eye-ah?
Ds- josiah. Jos-eye-ah

Jamaya - like Jamaica without the c?

No the spellings I did are the original spellings hun. They are caribbean names. It's a cultural thing. That represents Jah and Haile Selassie

I think Jahmaya sounds like Jahniya so personally wouldn't go with Jahmaya.
Jamilla sounds like a nice unique J name :)
Juliana
Julissa
Are some that are some off the top of my head too that sound unique.

Gowlett · 04/09/2023 13:49

Jahmelia is nice.

WaltzingWaters · 04/09/2023 13:48

Agree with everyone else saying it’s too similar to their siblings. Is there another J name you like that has a different sound to it?

Gowlett · 04/09/2023 13:48

I’d spell it the way you’ve written it here.

jadey1991 · 04/09/2023 13:47

Thanks all for your replies.

It would be spelt with jah at the beginning as its a cultural thing.

I was thinking of Jameila but spell it jahmeila..

I was thinking jahmaya and jahniya sound the same myself but for some reason I find myself drawn to the name.

It will be something I'll need to think about.

As for ds. Really we should have spelt his name as jahzia but kept it at josiah as its biblical

Jessbow · 04/09/2023 13:44

Jenaya?

MerryChristmasToYou · 04/09/2023 11:41

@CaptainMyCaptain , They are all Js in the family so something beginning with a different letter might stand out, like they'd run out of J names.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/09/2023 11:25

If it is a name from your culture spell it the traditional way. If it isn't don"t use it all. I also advise against having the same initial. Having several J Smiths can be very confusing at school and when receiving post.
