Names like Scarlet

Absolutely love the name Scarlet, I’m not sure any name can beat it. Sadly, I’m aware most people would consider the name to be spelt Scarlett (I just like colour/nature names) and prefer it to resemble that. Hence I’m not going with it, as I don’t want it to be an issue.

Like Violet too, but then there’s the discrepancy around if it’s Vi-let or Vi-o-let (2 or 3 syllables) I personally pronounce it with 2 but it seems it should be 3… so may as well forget that name as well.

Love Ivy but it’s outrageously popular.

thank you

Weird reason not to just go with a name you love op.

It's completely fine to spell it with one t. I'm a supply teacher and I see it on registers as Scarlett, Scarlet and Scarlette.

I think you could spell it as you wish. Names that give me a similar vibe:

Isla

Fern

Amber
Loretta

Summer
Jade

Definitely not Clio. That’s a Renault. It’s Cleo.

I have a Scarlett and I’d say it’s 75% that people spell it with one T so I wouldn’t worry about it to be honest. Scarlett is lovely, I am biased though!

neverenoughwine · 02/09/2023 22:02

Love Scarlet and love Violet and the way you spell/pronounce each one!

Stick with them. 💗

MightyMols · 02/09/2023 21:58

Thank you for the suggestions

really pleased that people think it’s fine to use Scarlet though! That’s massively game changing!

When we had ds, if he had been a girl, he would have been Scarlett, but everyone I told said it was spelt wrong with tt, I love it anyway, and really I think you can get away with spelling it either way, but like I said, from my experience, most people spell it with just the one t.

I also know a few violets and they're all pronounced with the two syllables, but again, I'm sure it can be either, pick which you prefer and go with it. Don't not pick the names you love, they're both beautiful names.

I don't think those are really an issue with the names you love, spelling is so minor. Also I've never heard violet pronounced with 3 syllables but also don't think this will be a problem because you determine how her name will be pronounced 👍 don't settle for something you don't love

DuploTrain · 02/09/2023 21:34

I’d go with Scarlet if you love it.
I think it’s probably about 50/50 if you had to ask people to spell it - I definitely wouldn’t be sure whether it’s meant to have one t or two.

I’d pronounce Violet with 2 syllables like the colour.

I think you're overthinking this. Go with Scarlet and spell it however you want

GertrudeJekyllRose · 02/09/2023 21:26

I love the name Scarlet too.

I think however you spell it you'll still get the occasional person spelling it the other way, so I'd go with your preference.
