Brother for Herb

Ds1 is Herb Osbourne Surname, we’ve decided on Edwin as a middle name but we’ve shunned our previous favourites as they are too feminine sounding. At the moment we have:
Iggy
Ziggy (might be too feminine)
Hayes
Sonny
Sullie
Nash
Huck

Please consider Robert.

Herb - Robert... it’s a thing.

sorry for my poor contribution… exits stage left

Santasjingleballs · 26/09/2023 20:28

You should name him “pot” or “hasish”

Santasjingleballs · 26/09/2023 20:26

Lol what kind of name is “herb”. Your trying to hard to be different….

AdalineStephen · 26/09/2023 20:25

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/09/2023 19:50

Highlyflavouredgravy · 26/09/2023 18:33

Oh Holy mother of God......

Orangewinegum8481 · 26/09/2023 18:30

Hayes

Samzzz · 05/09/2023 07:38

Please go with Nash, it’s a great name. Huck sounds like *uck and he will most likely be teased.

Also, I can only imagine (and I have lots and lots of experience of school aged boys who swear blind to me they said ‘ducking Miss! I said I ducking hate Ben’
They would have a field day with Huck, call him Fuck every time and then pretend they didn’t.

I totally agree with this, please don’t do it!!!!

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 30/08/2023 18:42

I normally raise an eyebrow at the MN bullying predictions as they are usually a massive reach but I urge you in the strongest possible terms to think very carefully before you give your child a name that is an exact rhyme for ‘fuck’. I guarantee he is in for years of ‘Huck off’, ‘Huck you’, ‘Huck’s sake’, etc etc.

If the classical heritage of Nestor appeals then how about Hector?

I know a Nash, he’s 11. Fab name!

Trikey · 29/08/2023 15:42

I have two teenage sons and a fair knowledge of how they think and the names they call each other and their mates. Even in affection! I'm afraid Huck as a name would result in a huge amount of unpleasant teasing.

toomuchlaundry · 29/08/2023 15:00

Huck sounds a really harsh name

watcherintherye · 29/08/2023 14:55

Sorry, op, but not sure why a single letter addition, which makes a word unknown to most people, has put you off your preferred name, when a change in the first letter of the name you’ve chosen gives you a very popular expletive!

JudasPriest · 29/08/2023 12:46

Hi,
Dh and I have decided on Huck, we really wanted Nash but even though it’s obscure Nyash has put me off, So Huck Edwin it is.

Herb Osbourne and Guthrie Edwin or Arlo Edwin?

Of your list, I only like Sonny!

MolkosTeenageAngst · 29/08/2023 10:22

I really dislike Huck, I guess because the ‘uck’ sound is too close to fuck. I’m all for having a good swear but not something I’d want come to peoples minds when they heard the name of my baby, which it will. Plus potentially opens him up for teasing and ‘Huck the fuck/ HuckerFucker’ etc type nicknames in school.

Herb to me sounds like an American old man name, names of a similar vein to me would be: Walt, Hank, Hal, Clay, Ted, Clyde, Al, Abe.

TenThousandSpoons · 29/08/2023 10:13

Edwin is great as a first name too though.
Herbie and Eddie.

TenThousandSpoons · 29/08/2023 10:12

If you’re set on those final 3 though I’d choose Huck.

TenThousandSpoons · 29/08/2023 10:11

Another vote for Nash. Never heard of nyash but understand why it’s put you off if the youth of today are using it.

I wouldn’t choose Ozzy when it’s pretty much DS1’s middle name.

if you like Pearl how about Onyx?

SnowdaySewday · 29/08/2023 10:01

Ozzie is most commonly used as a short form for Osbourne and it brings to mind Ozzie Osbourne, which just reinforces the drugs connection. If you want people to take Herb's name seriously then don’t give your next child an “out-there” name.

Why not use Edwin as the first name? It’s by far the best name you’ve mentioned?

Nathan/ Nate
Finn
Ralf
Jude
Joel

I like Huck best from your list.

I also like:
Tate Edwin
Dashiell (Dash) Edwin
Gil(bert) Edwin
