Name with negative meaning

My partner and I have chosen and love the name we have chosen for our unborn son and have our hearts set on it.
We looked up the name meaning later on and found out what it means.

The name sounds similar to my name as well as my mother's name but not too similar that it detracts from individuality.

There are a couple positive meanings to the name but the most popular isn't.

What I'm wondering is if we go ahead with naming our son this name, would it be selfish even though our choosing has nothing to do with the origin meaning? I've tried to think of alternatives but no other names feel right now and it was the only name we both agreed on.

Thanks heaps in advance!

It depends on the name. If the name is one where most people will think of a negative meaning, then avoid it. For example, something like Dick isn't really going to be great now even though it was fine 70 yrs ago.

Depends how well known the negative meaning is.

Is it an obvious negative meaning, eg Satan, or do you need to really look into the name, eg Thomas means idiot in Greek (I made that up)?
