'normal' names that just don't appear on the baby name lists for some reason?

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect name, any help would be appreciated! I've noticed during my online search that there are gaps in the obvious names lists and I'm sure this little girl's name is a really obvious name that I just haven't seen on a list, could you guys suggest some obvious names that you don't often see on the "top 100" lists? For example I've been through about 20,000 names and Danielle, Felicity, Jill etc didn't show up on any of them. I'm not a fan of these names but it feels like I'm just missing an obvious one because I have immense baby brain and all names have flown away! Thanks! X

Sabrina is lovely. I like the similar sounding Serena too (even more so) and there's Selena too which also sounds similar if either of those take your fancy.

I'm not keen on Tabitha and, although the other 3 are lovely, they are all quite popular which I get the impression you were trying to avoid?

It's not quite so much that I'm trying to avoid popular names, it's just that I felt like the lists that all pop up when you Google seemed to have some names missing off that seemed like obvious names to me, if that makes sense? Of course having been through the links people have linked I can see that all the baby name lists are just taking them from the top 100 used each year and that's why I'm seeing all the same names! But then if you Google unusual names to try and get a wider pool you end up with some quite odd ones, I felt like there was a middle elusive ground that I couldn't master! X

Sage and Kayla both lean a bit American to me, so it might be worth looking at the American top 100 / 1000 as well?

I’ll have a look and see if anything stands out

Hello!

Sorry I haven't managed to reply to all of you. I've been down a rabbit hole of all the lists people suggested, which then spawned more lists, I somehow ended up on a top titan name list🤣 Thank you for all your suggestions so far!

Still haven't found "the one" so I've been staring at each of the names you suggested to try and be fair to them but something just isn't clicking. There's so many lovely names been suggested but then I try to apply it to her and it feels wrong?

We've ended up with Clara, Tabitha, Poppy, Sabrina & Lily on the "panic - a name is never going to feel right so maybe one of these will do" list X

Dorothy. Karen. Sybil. Angela.

Angelina1972 · 27/08/2023 16:50
  • Sorry, I meant Dorothea.

also Cassandra, Joanna.

I was a primary school in the 70’s and 80’s and can remember two sisters called Beth and Zoe which to my mind are both diminutives of Elizabeth. Always fascinated me that did.

Sally & Sadie are short for Sarah, well they are in the North West anyway.

Angelina1972 · 27/08/2023 16:41

If I was pregnant now I’d be thinking about:

Carmen
Heidi
Hazel
Lorna
Flora
Caroline
Celeste
Pearl
Elizabeth
Katherine
Stephanie
Marion
Dorathea
Estelle
Esther
Kathleen

For boys I like New Testament and/or regal names 🙂

More suggestions:
Lucinda
Freya
Esme
Dorothy or Dorothea
Sadie
Alexandra
Jasmine
Millicent, nn Millie

Love Sabrina. Always thought she was the coolest Angel from Charlie’s Angels.

KirstenBlest · 27/08/2023 15:19

Erin comes up on here quite often but seemed to have peaked ar #28 in 2006. It's been in the top 100 since 1996, according to Darkgreener (data for England & Wales since 1996)

Clara, Tabitha, Poppy, Sabrina & Lily are quite different in sound and vibe.

I'll suggest: Cara, Matilda, Jemima, Sabina, Dorcas, Martha, Annest, Jacinta, Jocasta, Diana, Clarissa, Rachel

JosieGrossie · 27/08/2023 15:11

Just thought of Erin too. Not sure how popular it is though

KirstenBlest · 27/08/2023 14:12

@Katieg27 , every other girl seems to be an Evie. Beatrice is in the top 100, as is Eden, which seems to be in the nature names lists for girls and boys.
I don't like Eden. Eve and Beatrice are ok, but I don't like the Eve type names like Eva, Ava, Ivy, Evelyn Everley, Evangeline etc

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 27/08/2023 14:05

Samantha nn Sammy

All of the names on your list are lovely imo.

Katieg27 · 27/08/2023 14:01

How about Eve, Beatrice or Eden?

I was thinking only this morning how Harry was really popular for boys a few years back, but you never hear of any little Harriets anymore.

User6761 · 27/08/2023 12:43

I know siblings
Rose and Claire
Rose and Hazel
Rose and Ellen

Other suggestions - Matilda, Heather, Polly, Marnie, Merrin, Eira, Orla, Nicola.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 27/08/2023 11:59

Verity is pretty.

gohomeroger1 · 27/08/2023 11:57

We have a two year old Felicity. You don't see many Catherines/Katherine's any more which is surprising with the popularity of the Duchess of Cambridge

Anoisagusaris · 27/08/2023 11:55

Dighi · 26/08/2023 14:12

Basically all the names from my primary school (1970s) so we a gazillion of the following, and yet I’ve not come across any current kids with these names:
rebecca
juliette
lisa/elizabeth
victoria
emma/emily
louise
claire
helen
Sarah

Sarah, Emily and Rebecca all very popular in our primary school (in Ireland).

Aurora was number 56 in the charts in 2021 England and Wales with 910 little Auroras born. I know three under ten.

You are right, lots went for Sophia, in fact if you combine Sophia and Sofia as one name there were 3690 born in the same period which would make the name more popular than Olivia and number one in the charts. And then there are the 1375 Sophies.

Claudia however is outside the top 500, only 78 babies were named this making it on of the 521st most popular names.

sounds like we’re more unadventurous here 😜

JosieGrossie · 27/08/2023 11:45

What about:

Helena

Miranda

Menna

Leona

Ruth

Fiona

Fay or Faye

Imogen

Agnes

Clara

Cora

Mae

Alice or Alicia

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 27/08/2023 11:26

Jocelyn is lovely.
