Not expecting atm, but always have a wee notion of another down the line.

We have all boys and have a bit of a pang that we didn’t get to use our girls names - my favourite was Anna & husband’s was Kate.

If we ever had a fourth child, I don’t think we could choose between them. So I was thinking, maybe mother’s name?

Is Patricia too dated? I don’t like Pat/Patty/Patsy or anything like that.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My family included a wonderful Patricia who was adored. Our family uses names of elder family members in our childrens names. Despite being essentially the head of our family for years and missed by everyone, nobody put Patricia in their childrens names. Because the name is ugly, she herself throught it was shit and was much happier to be called Mum/Nanna by everyone, and all of the shortenings (Pat, Patsy, Patty, Trish, Trisha) are also awful.

DD’s middle name after late MIL - I’d have chosen it as a first name as I quite like it but I left that choice to DH. I suspect it’s a fairly common middle name currently if people choose to honour grandparents…

I personally really hate it. I'm not sure why. It dies sound quite dated I think.
I love Kate and Anna

FriedasCarLoad · 01/10/2023 00:38

I think it's rather elegant and it's a great idea to choose an underused name rather than an overused name.

Cleebope2 · 01/10/2023 00:14

Christine and Frank Lampard’s daughter is called Patricia. It can be classy if used in full.

Frances0911 · 30/09/2023 23:39

This is my first name. My mum was Scottish so it was traditional to name your children after family members, so I was named after her sister.

My mum called me Patsy as a child. In my late 20's when I moved, I told people who didn't know me to call me Patricia. However even today, almost everyone wants to shorten it and no one ever seems happy until I give them a shortened version, be it Patsy or Trish. Often, if I say I don't have a shortened version, people automatically call me Pat which I hate.

Frances is my middle name btw.

Thenakedwineglass · 30/09/2023 23:31

Going against the grain here but I know a Patricia and she is amazing and therefore it makes me associate the name with good things. Plus lots of ways to adapt it like patsy, Trish etc

Silverballet · 30/09/2023 23:27

I think Patsy is cute.

A friend gave her child the middle name 'Irene', that's the furthest I'd ever go.

for that as a middle name.

I've just seen a friend holding her friend's baby boy and his name is Keith.
It's up there with Patricia and not in a good way.

So so sorry but…

Mil was Patricia and I loved her so for me Patricia is a strong woman who knows her own mind and loves her family fiercely.

All good things.

Exactly this x

Daisybuttercup12345 · 28/08/2023 23:06

Awful.
I know of an 11 year old Patsy though.

Mooshamoo · 28/08/2023 21:51

My mum's name. She hates it. Everyone calls her pat.

Or worse they call her "pah hy". They say patty but don't pronounce the t, so she gets called Pahhy

Valerie23 · 26/08/2023 20:24

I have a lovely aunt called Patricia.

She used to look after a neighbours young child for free so his mum could work.

The little boy couldn't pronounce Patricia, and my Aunt doesn't like being called Pat and when they told the boy to call her Tricia, he couldn't say that either, and named her 'Treasure'!

OrganicAlchemy · 26/08/2023 19:29

Both of my grandmothers are Patricias, both very unpleasant women 😅 Shortened to Pat which then becomes cow pat/pat splat (coined by my younger sister) so I would say NO 😎

Soubriquet · 26/08/2023 19:23

My Nan is a Patricia. She hates it they much she goes by her middle name Ann

edgeware · 26/08/2023 19:19

Oh I had an absolutely lovely teacher called Patricia so it’s only good vibes for me.

rockpoolingtogether · 26/08/2023 19:07

No way

EinyLinky · 26/08/2023 18:55

Patricia is my middle name, after my grandmother. I don't really mind it as my middle name, especially as it is after her, but I do sometimes feel embarrassed to say what it is, especially when I was younger 😅I don't think it is a particularly nice name and it's pretty bad as a first name (these days) with not really any nice nicknames either...

MrsJellybee · 26/08/2023 17:21

Fraaahnces · 26/08/2023 05:05

Oh god no. That’s my MIL and she’s vile.

Ooh, same

Tiespin · 26/08/2023 17:19

I love it

Spidey66 · 26/08/2023 17:07

It was my mum's name. As a result I don't hate it as it reminds me of my mum. However, I do think it's a dated name, and while I'd consider it as a middle name in an honour of my mum, I wouldn't use it as a first name.

My mum often got called Pat, which she hated. She preferred Patricia.

Lampzade · 26/08/2023 17:03

It is my middle name and I dislike it.
