Not expecting atm, but always have a wee notion of another down the line.

We have all boys and have a bit of a pang that we didn’t get to use our girls names - my favourite was Anna & husband’s was Kate.

If we ever had a fourth child, I don’t think we could choose between them. So I was thinking, maybe mother’s name?

Is Patricia too dated? I don’t like Pat/Patty/Patsy or anything like that.

I’m sure Kathleen will be as unpopular as Patricia now lol, but I’m not a fan of Catherine. It’s perfectly okay, but for someone else.

Haha a lot of hate for the name Patricia! I actually really love Anna Kate (which is odd as I hate double barrelled names), but my husband has a thing about not having a diminutive on the BC so it would be Anna Kathleen or a Kathleen Anna which doesn’t have the same ring to it.

I know double names are not popular with mnetters but what about Anna Kate? I wouldn’t hyphen it but use both names together. Sounds good and not too long.
Julie Andrews has a daughter called Emma Kate which has the same vibe.

Yep agree that she will have the piss taken out of her with cow pat, she might escape Pat Butcher as won't be their generation.

All in all not a good choice.

Patty/Patsy equally bad.

mollscat · 06/10/2023 00:46

@Frances0911 Yep Patti Smith, please give her music a listen and you can thank me and @RitzyMcFitzy later, she is amazing!

OuiRagamuffin · 05/10/2023 23:32

Awful. I like plenty of dated names from this genre or era but not Patricia.

RitzyMcFitzy · 05/10/2023 22:15

It's Patti Smith. American singer-songwriter and poet who's ploughed her own furrow since her early days in the NY punk scene.

She is pretty cool to be fair.

Thank you RitzyMcFitzy.
Yes I agree, she looks pretty cool which is why I had to ask.

Please do tell, who is the person in the picture?

I like it myself, its unusual these days but not a silly made up name also who wouldn't want to share a name with this goddess ...

Ilikeyourdecor · 05/10/2023 07:12

I like it although don't like the diminutives.

Why not double barrel and use Anna-Kate? I think they go well together.

TerfTalking · 05/10/2023 05:40

Hideous name, I’m allowed to say it as it’s my middle name and my mothers name. She’s 87 and I’m 57. My SIL is 60 and it’s her name and my cousin is 65 and it’s her middle name too.

mathanxiety · 05/10/2023 05:38

I don't think its time has yet returned.

Also, if your older DCs are all boys, choosing a female version of a male name is going to look as if you were disappointed to have a girl.

VeryQuaintIrene · 05/10/2023 02:06

Patricia the Stripper by Chris de Burgh. So...no.

ClaraBean · 04/10/2023 12:28

I love it, and love nn Patsy
We have a dd called Shirley and we are starting to think of sibling names for her and Patricia is on the list

CallieQ · 03/10/2023 01:19

Love it ♥️

justasoul · 03/10/2023 00:24

I had quick peek at the ONS historic data and both Lily and May were on a downward trajectory from the beginning of the 20th century. Lily seems to fall off the top 100 in the 1930s (as does May) and resurface in the 1990s. Patricia dropped from the top 100 in the 1970s so has another 10ish years to go… Grin

SemperIdem · 02/10/2023 01:16

It’s my lone living grandparents name.

It’s horrible. No.

Both my grandmothers and my stepgrandmother assured me when I was pregnant that they not only didn’t expect me to name their great granddaughter after them, but actively did not want me to, first or middle name. They all had very ‘of their time, just about’ names.

I wish I knew where all the grandmothers called Lily and May lived because I’ve never known an elderly one. Did meet a Betty once.

peaceinourtime · 01/10/2023 14:32

It will be shortened somewhere along the line. Patty or Patsy are nice.

RedToothBrush · 01/10/2023 09:19

It's a 1940/50 name.

It's got 20 years before it's due a comeback. And rightly so.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 01/10/2023 09:16

It will be in the next wave of granny-chic names, and we should all be prepared to start meeting babies named Patricia, Jean, or Barbara within the next ten years or so. You would be ahead of the curve!
