What names are popular in the playground?

I’m just curious really to see what names people have heard on the playground recently or what they have chosen recently for their kids.

Wanted to see if my preferred baby name is popular 😊

There are 4 Lucas' in my son's nursery, 3 Freyas and Phoebes and a couple of Toms.

My son's name (Cameron) is really uncommon for SE England, although even in Scotland it's not as common as it used to be - unlike Hamish, Callum, Angus and Finlay which seem to be everywhere.

ValancyRedfern · 31/08/2023 10:39

Isla definitely the most common, but dd is 9 so I'm not on the pulse with younger kids. Oliver, Sophia and Isabella also very common.

peasandpetals · 30/08/2023 21:43

Isla
Isabel/la
Sophie/ia

Arthur
Alfie

Ilinaya · 30/08/2023 21:32

Oh and boys, Olivers are everywhere

Ilinaya · 30/08/2023 21:32

4 Isabella's in my son's class. Known as Izzy, Bella, Isabelle and Isabella.
It's totally taken the shine off the name for me.

peaceinourtime · 30/08/2023 20:23

Interesting graphics there are lots of Olivia’s and Oliver’s it seems. I don’t get the emergence of Isla, it’s not a new name but in the past ten years or it has popped up everywhere.

RaisinCain · 30/08/2023 19:40

Interesting. Lots of the names mentioned here - Oscar, Harry, Freddie, Alfie, Leo, Noah / Lily, Olivia, Isabel/ella, Amelia, Grace - were popular where I am (London suburb) when my 18 year old was little!

Where I am, for boys - lots of ‘ee’ and ‘oh’ ending names- Theo, Arlo, Milo / Teddy, Albie, Louis, Archie, Toby etc

fmFor girls, Isla by far - but granny chic babes still going strong - Margot, Mabel, Ivy etc

Orangemoon8 · 30/08/2023 19:19

I’ve noticed Lily a lot lately! And Isla Amelia Sophie/ Sophia. Boys Arlo is suddenly everywhere, Finley and Oliver.

WhoHidTheCoffee · 30/08/2023 18:51

Oh, and Isabella/Isabelle/Isobel is very popular!

WhoHidTheCoffee · 30/08/2023 18:51

For boys, I know several of the following:

Oscar
Alfie
George

Leo is having a moment and seems to be taking off.

For girls, I know a lot of Eva/Ava/Evies. Sophia, Emily and Amelia are also very popular where I live.

I wouldn’t put a huge amount of stock in popularity of names per se. Both my DCs have names that were around 20 in the name charts when they were born. So very recognisable, mainstream names. With one, I know of others but we’ve only ever met one once. With the other, I’ve never met another one. The only duplicates in my DC1’s class were boys Louie (not the most common name).

porppa · 30/08/2023 18:39

Definitely Isla is everywhere, that's first thing that sprung to mind!

Also Isabelle, Freya, Lily

neverenoughwine · 30/08/2023 18:36

Lily
Olivia
Emily
Grace

Jenson
Harry
Arthur
George

sunshinenshower · 30/08/2023 17:17

We have several of the following:

Theo
Noah
Isla
Grace

UnicornNarwhale · 26/08/2023 10:02

In baby classes in my area (SE) there are a lot of Finley (at least 2 in each class!) and Freddie. Also Arthur and James have been popular.

Interestingly more variety in girls names, but one that I’ve met multiple babies with is Ottilie.

Samzzz · 26/08/2023 09:54

Isla!! They are literally everywhere

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 26/08/2023 08:50

Lots of ‘old man diminutives’ coming up through the pre-school-age boys. In a playground yesterday in the space of about an hour I heard Ronnie, Reggie (I don’t think they were brothers but…), Archie, Charlie and Albie.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 26/08/2023 08:07

Teddy
Oliver
Theo
Freddie
Arthur
Archie

Florence
Isabel or Bella
Lily
Grace
Amelia

Dd1 and Dd2 have both quite unusual names so I’ve not met another of them yet.

StillWantingADog · 26/08/2023 08:06

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 25/08/2023 22:34

Olivia
Amelia
Ava
Evie
Isla
Lily
Ella
Elsie
Maya

Anything paired with Rose/Grace/May.

George
Oscar
Jack
Theo
Harry
Samuel
Oliver

Spookily similar to what I would have said
(Nw)

however due to the ages of my own kids I overwhelmingly know 8-10 year olds. I imagine it’s evolved a but for the babies.

MooseBreath · 26/08/2023 08:02

Arthur
Theo
Leo
Oscar

Phoebe
Evie
Edith
Sophie

Are you in the UK? I know Hendrik is quite popular in Belgium, Netherlands and Germany.

I’m in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Duplicates at school ..
Harvey, Rory, Charlie, Cal and Archer
Isabelle, Lily, Ava, Mia and Olivia

Whatsthepoint1234 · 26/08/2023 00:55

WhootDaFook · 25/08/2023 22:48

The only duplicated names in my children’s classes are Rosie and, weirdly, Hendrix.

Are you in the UK? I know Hendrik is quite popular in Belgium, Netherlands and Germany.

Piggysmalls22 · 26/08/2023 00:51

Thanks so much for your replies. I’m glad not to see my sons name or future names I like popping up.
That website is really cool as well

Oh that's an interesting site! My ds was one of 1.3k odd in 2019, but dd is one of 12 in 2022.

dressedforcomfort · 25/08/2023 22:53

The girls in son's age group (age 9) are all variants of Evie/Ivy/Ava/Isla/Ida etc. Boys are all called Noah/Theo/Henry/Jake etc.
