What boy names do you love but are you afraid to use?

septicsmeg · 24/08/2023 19:12

Gabriel

Cupofteaneeded · 24/08/2023 19:11

Atticus…. if it had gone better with our surname I would have loved that as my favourite book (and film) is To Kill a Mockingbird

LoveRules · 24/08/2023 18:54

Rex and Sonny

Montgomery.

But as a teacher I think it's really hard to find a shockingly unusual name nowadays.

The kids I feel sorry for are the ones with names plucked from very popular movies or tv series. We have a few coming up now with Game of Thrones names.

I considered this as I love the name Monty but then thought that might be more suited to a dog 🐶

Incomingwork · 24/08/2023 17:25

Etienne I loved but thought was too out there

Derrymum123 · 24/08/2023 17:11

Ziggy.
I always loved that Bob Marley's son was named this. However, I can't imagine it going down well in reality.

Sacha
Cassius
Casper
Julian

On a similar thread somebody said they'd named their son Sacha Valentine, how gorgeous

My surname would sound ridiculous with any of these names sadly

Floppyfrog · 24/08/2023 16:34

Sherlock. I love it but you just can't. Poor boy would just be known as 'no shit'

ChangingTheNarative · 24/08/2023 16:32

Luther

neleh87 · 24/08/2023 16:31

Dorian
Laurie (I know this one is not that out there but I couldn't get the pronunciation right without it sounding like lorry)

greglet · 24/08/2023 16:28

Godfrey
Hereward
Athelstan

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 24/08/2023 16:26

Horatio and Thaddeus. Also have a bit of a soft spot for Tarquin. Would never use any of them.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 24/08/2023 16:04

I love Englebert. DS is glad he didn't get named that though.

Oldermum84 · 24/08/2023 15:53

Fox
Quin
Hendrix

thesnailandthewhale · 24/08/2023 15:49

I love Miller but alas no more kids for me. Might use it for a puppy one day x

DaddyPigMustDie · 24/08/2023 15:45

My boys' list was

Kentigern
Uist
Crawford
Aloysius
Forbes

DH wasn't keen, although his offering was Ulysses.

WotNoUserName · 24/08/2023 15:32

Ptolemy. My youngest was very nearly Ptolemy but I chickened out at the last minute. I don't regret his actual name though, it totally suits him and is from one of my favourite books.

Taliesin. I'm not Welsh, it's an awesome name though.

@SnapdragonToadflax oh, I'm British but don't live in the U.K... (and haven't done for a while). I thought it was quite unusual but am obviously behind the times

Obviously because I'm a bit of a twat, I'm now going off it as you say it's quite standard...

But I love the meaning and the sound of it!

Than we are both twats, because I have a Felix and am a bit annoyed it's got more popular since we used it 😂

But yes, I love the sound and the meaning. And there are only two in my son's nursery of nearly 100 kids, so it's not that common...

CoalTit · 24/08/2023 14:28

Buenaventura
Darius
Isidore
Lucius
Gary, Francis (only after seeing how Mumsnetters despise those two names)
Ramón
Valentine

chunkychunks · 24/08/2023 14:01

Rhodes

I'm pregnant with a little boy, dh wouldnt even consider as a middle name 😂
