Names you can shorten to Annie

We love the name Annie, but can’t seem to land on which ‘full name’ we like best - would love to get some ideas!

Annabel - current fave, but 2yo has a Baby Annabell who is very important to her, and not sure if this would be weird (admittedly it’s a short-term issue though, so not sure if I’m overthinking this!)

Anastasia - like this, but not sure if it’s a bit rogue if you don’t have any Russian / Eastern European heritage?

Anna - I like, but husband not keen

Annalise - we both quite like, but husband says it reminds him of Annalise Dodd

Any thoughts on these or other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Another vote for just going with Annie. I know an Annie and it suits her as much in her 20s as it did when she was little. Plus, one of my kids absolutely hates their full name as they only ever got called it when they were being told off. Whoops!

knobkopf · 25/08/2023 16:49

Just call her Annie and be done with it.
Why does she need a longer name?

It's literally got 'an' at the front of it 🤔

The Antigone I know (my DD), is called Tigs or Tiggy. It is the most common, but ultimately you can call your child anything if you want, I know a teenage lad who is John on his BC and absolutely everyone ( incl school) call him Bob. No idea why
So OP if you want Annie just go for Annie.

Ohhbaby · 25/08/2023 16:41

Don't know if someone suggested Anina
Annalene

Dannysgirl31 · 25/08/2023 16:41

There is nothing wrong with just calling her Annie.
We named our baby girl Ellie. We didn't like like the full name choices for her, just didn't sit right with us.

Zoommeout · 25/08/2023 16:40

My friend is called Aneesa (pronounced A knee sa) and we call her Annie for short.

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 25/08/2023 16:40

I used to know a Rhiannon whose nickname was Annie.

porridgeisbae · 25/08/2023 16:40

It is good to also have a long form that seems more professional for work and job applications etc.

Annabel is fine.

Or a hyphened first name like Anna-Maria?

Astrabees · 25/08/2023 16:39

Annis or Anona?

Sallyh87 · 25/08/2023 16:39

Andthereyougo · 25/08/2023 16:35

I know an Annora , not sure if that’s the correct spelling as we’ve always called her Annie!

Womencanlift · 25/08/2023 16:35

Rhiannon?
Rhianna

Hesma · 25/08/2023 16:34

Pipsquiggle · 25/08/2023 16:21

I would just go with Annie - great name.

Randomly my school friend 'Ann' is called 'Annie' by all her uni and work mates - she'll always be Ann to me though

Dontcallmescarface · 25/08/2023 16:15

Annie is a "full name" so if you like it then use it.
I just don't get MN's weird obsession with giving a child a name purely to shorten it to another perfectly good name.

Elaina87 · 25/08/2023 16:09

I think just Annie is lovely, no need for it to be a shortening. But Annabel or Anastasia are both great names too. Wouldn't worry about the doll - she might like having the baby have the same name. Also wouldn't worry about the heritage for Anastasia- i really like that name.

TheGirlWhoLived · 25/08/2023 16:09

I love Savannah- nn Annie, otherwise I’d go for Annabel, baby Annabel will be gone before long

Baba197 · 25/08/2023 16:08

Just call her Annie? I’m not a fan of calling child something you’re not going to ever call them- it gets complicated at school etc always having to explain it and in all honesty if she’s called Annie all her life she’s not really going to use her “full” name
