Tallulah is a name I associate more with vintage showbiz (Tallulah Bankhead) than anything posh.

She's the showgirl that a viscount has an affair with before settling down with Lady Anne.

lilacsandlillies · 25/08/2023 12:28

i also thought of Tallulah

This. I would also add Victoria to the list.

The nicknames can be silly, but the names are usually classic. No one is posher than the Royal family.

There are actually several old English families who'd firmly disagree with that. They see the Windsors as new money, mere johnny-come-latelys. Just a few steps up from trade.

'Is it Katie Price or is it Princess Beatrice? It's so hard for one to tell these commoners apart.'

My experience also that the likes of Cassius Aurelius (not a fictional example) are more aspirational than upper class.

As others have said, my experience is fairly bog standard names with slightly ludicrous nicknames. Paired with ancient, crappy cars and shabby clothes.

grass321 · 24/08/2023 06:04

My favourite has to be:

"On 1st July 2023, to Hannah (née Lim) and Jeffrey, a son, Oswin Charles Ebenezer Hyunho, a brother for Edmund, Prudence, Constance, Alfred, Quentin and Thaddeus. "Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord" (Psalm 127.3). Show more »"

My thought was rather more lo, that's a LOT of kids. Followed by poor Oswin, Quentin and Thaddeus on the name front.

Ironically their surname was Johnson.

Geppili · 24/08/2023 01:14

Tomasina
philomena

Geppili · 24/08/2023 01:14

Talitha
Camilla
Seraphine
May

drunkpeacock · 24/08/2023 01:12

Ok I once knew a very posh family with four girls called:
Ariadné, Gabriella, Grace and Camille.

StandingMyGround888 · 24/08/2023 01:08

You've the truly posh and dull who name their children Catherine and Emily.
Then you've the eccentrics who name their children Fuchsia and Isis.
Then you've those abroad who name their children after a Zambian mountain but usually last so you might have James, Emily, Catherine (Kitty) and Inyangani.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/08/2023 00:16

Caroline
Octavia
Dido

Positive41 · 24/08/2023 00:13

The names you think are posh make me cringe!

JulianFawcettMP · 23/08/2023 23:31

If you use the word posh then you aren't and no name will change that

USaYwHatNow · 23/08/2023 23:26

@HeyMicky god that's eye opening, looking at all those announcements 😂 and I know each to their own but, 'Athena Perdita Allegra'?! What a name...

Moonrising · 23/08/2023 23:25

Camilla
Cordelia

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 23/08/2023 23:24

XelaM · 23/08/2023 23:24

Just look at the royals

Catherine
Elizabeth
Beatrice
Eugenie
Sarah
Diana
Sophie
Charlotte
Anne
Mary
Margaret

The ‘proper’ royals tend on the whole to have relatively plain names - they don’t distract, they’re not quirky, they’re appropriate in any setting. They’re also not that interesting or exciting but I don’t think that’s a bad thing - you can’t really go wrong with them.

This. I would also add Victoria to the list.

The nicknames can be silly, but the names are usually classic. No one is posher than the Royal family.
