I know a family who have Alexa and Xander... I also know an Elliot whose name has never been shortened if that helps.

WavingGreenFlag · 22/08/2023 07:40

Of course you can, but I wouldn't. Helena, Alina?

InaBarbieWorld · 22/08/2023 07:03

I decided not to. Had an Eleanor and really thought about it as Elliot is a family name and would have been perfect, but found it to “matchy” ( but used it as a middle name)

as an Eleanor Mum, I think Alana and Leonor are both lovely.

megletthesecond · 21/08/2023 23:02

No. There's thousands of other names out there.

Miriam44 · 21/08/2023 22:56

i wouldn’t do it but if they were twins sure. If not? That would be kinda odd as the names seem matchy

continentallentil · 21/08/2023 21:18

… I mean you can but it’s a bit twee, and it’ll probably piss them off, and yelling for them up the stairs might cause some banged heads

continentallentil · 21/08/2023 21:16

Only if you call her Nell or Lena for short

Or him.. Lot?

Yirk · 21/08/2023 15:43

Elliott and Eleanor is lovely

Soubriquet · 21/08/2023 15:41

Sure. I know someone who has a Lola and Logan

donquixotedelamancha · 21/08/2023 15:40

Puts me in mind of Harry Enfield's Wayne and Waynetta.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 21/08/2023 15:38

I think it’s fine. In theory anyway, I really dislike the name Eleanor

Liv999 · 21/08/2023 15:36

No I wouldn't personally

user1492757084 · 21/08/2023 05:24

I would prefer Elliot and ..
Leonor
Gabriella or Gabrielle
Scarlett
Sophie
Adrienne

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 21/08/2023 04:55

No

Kaceeee · 20/08/2023 20:39

I think so

faban · 20/08/2023 20:04

I think its absolutely fine!

fruitbrewhaha · 20/08/2023 20:00

Gabriella is much nicer.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/08/2023 19:58

Of course you can ! Your DC will spend the majority of their life away from their sibling - and it's up to you if you prefer to call them by their full names at home - if they are both known as 'El' by their friends it won't affect their sibling or cause confusion . I see families where there are a lot more than two children with very similar names .

floraswiltingflower · 20/08/2023 19:53

Hmm not sure...I think not.
Elliot and Helena might be good fit for you.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/08/2023 19:41

Have you got one of them already? And if so, what's their pet name?

LizHoney · 20/08/2023 19:35

Weird.

MerryChristmasToYou · 20/08/2023 19:26

You could but it looks like you wanted matching names.
Would Leonora or Helena be options

Gabriella is sometimes shortened to Ella, which is too close to Elliot.

LauderSyme · 20/08/2023 19:22

I wouldn't, sorry but it sounds too gimmicky. I'm not sure I like the "Nor" sound either. Gabriella is lovely.

Toottooot · 20/08/2023 19:20

Of course you can. 🤷🏻‍♀️

WantingToEducate · 20/08/2023 19:18

I would definitely do that OP.

They are both great names!!!

I love Eleanor so much - it’s ridiculously beautiful. I’ve got two boys and if I’d had a girl she would definitely have been an Eleanor.

A guy I used to work with had a Lucy and a Lucas.
