Is this trend from Margot Robbie? They're bloody everywhere.

I actually think it’s a beautiful name it reminds me of a little girl a few years ago I saw on an appeal for donors I think she had leukaemia and sadly passed away it was really sad she was beautiful

I met a baby Margaux lately 😬

I think once you’re in Oonique naming territory, you know there’s over-saturation of the name.

That’s the French spelling ….

I have no idea but we have a chicken we got at point of lay and named her Margot!

SarahAndQuack · 19/08/2023 20:14

I think it's part of the fashion for old-fashioned names? Lots of little girls called things like Martha or Florence. Margot/Margaret feels like the same era. I've got to admit my first association is Joey Bettany's triplets!

I disagree with a PP that it sounds less nice with a Germanic pronunciation. IMO 'mar-go' sounds a bit like a budget supermarket. Margot with a t is more elegant.

It’s a lovely name. We’re all existing in the same world, subject to the same influences, so it’s not surprising that they are waves of popularity with names. I don’t consider it a trendy name, it’s currently seeing a bit of a resurgence, that’s all.

TheYadaYada · 19/08/2023 20:07

It's a nice name, but even if I loved it, the fact that Billie whatsit from TOWIE has used it would render it unusable.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/08/2023 20:07

There was a Margot in our NCT group over 10 years ago

Bleepbloopbluurp · 19/08/2023 20:05

I love the name. Considered it for my oldest daughter but DH is german and his family pronounces it with a hard "t" which is just not nice.

Bruisername · 19/08/2023 20:00

Whenever there is a big celeb the name soars in popularity - be it an actor or royal baby etc etc. it just comes into the general consciousness and when it’s not been particularly common it sticks in people’s minds.

ClarkWGriswaldd · 19/08/2023 20:00

All I think is Maggot , if you just swap out 1 letter

0021andabit · 19/08/2023 20:00

I love the name Margot.

Margaux is just the French spelling, isn’t it?

user2468101214 · 19/08/2023 19:57

I guess I just hate 'trendy' names

It's a lovely name, fairly unusual but well known enough that most people can pronounce it.

Bruisername · 19/08/2023 19:47

Margaux is the most common spelling in France these days. It isn’t a ‘unique’ spelling

LT2 · 19/08/2023 19:46

I wondered if it was from Despicable Me.

user2468101214 · 19/08/2023 19:46

Hah youre absolutely right blue liquid.

And yes to PP, I know of Billie F's daughter Margot

Gro · 19/08/2023 19:46

There is also a Margot in Despicable Me.

It’s been getting more and more popular in the US for the last ten years or so. I think Margot Robbie probably has helped that.

Billie Faiers (ex Towie influencer / reality star) named her daughter Margot earlier this year.

Ihaveoflate · 19/08/2023 19:42

It makes me think about The Good Life but maybe that's my age showing!
